Ive never had one but my mom had a greyhound/dalmation mix. She adopted him from a shelter down in Key Largo, FL several years ago. He was about 1.5yo at the time. Great dog, but very distrustful of men- particularly men with hats on and beards. He was just laid to rest a couple of days ago due to his hip dysplaysia (sp?) getting so bad.

My other experience was at with a neighbors greyhound when I was growing up. He was also an ex racer. Man was he a big dog too. Super sweet and loving, he would always wait at the bus stop with me in the mornings and he'd come meet me in the afternoons. He also had problems with his hips and also cancer.

Your girl is very pretty! And good for you for taking her in.

Unfortunitly I have a neighbor with greyhounds, he keeps them outside, that he hunts with. Any time one gets loose cats get killed. When one killed one of my other neighbors pet geese, there was a confrontation and the dogs haven't gotten loose since. I always feel sorry for the dogs but they appear healthy.

I have a friend who is a partner in a Greyhound kennel and her's are wonderfull dogs. If they are retired, break a nail or tail she goes to Florida and brings them home. She keeps them in a small yard until they get used to things, as far as I know none were jumpers. Then they are allowed to run, only when she is out with them. Some are cat killers some are not all have been just wonderfull to people. One saved her life, somebody broke into her house. She ran upstairs with the phone and when the cops came, there was broken glass all over the kitchen and blood. The dog was fine but whoever broke in Iam sure needed some major sutures!
