Yearling AQPA stud prospect

Dixie's Blonde Bomber, AKA Cupid.

Registered Quarter Pony

1 1/2 years old. 11 hands (when measured in April). Currently a stallion.

His current job is *in training* intended to use as stud/western showing.

Anything else you should know . . . he is foundation bred, supposed to be calm and amazing (his sire is not gelded and is kid safe) but ended up being *my little spitfire* instead of my little pony!

I guess I really want to know if his conformation will be an addition to the Quarter Pony breed. If he has any imperfections in his conformation please let me know! I do NOT want to breed him if he isn't going to be a contributor to good looking ponies.

The one thing I noticed was his neck looks a little scraggly next to his head and body? Am I right about that, or not?

If he doesn't have good conformation I'll just geld him and sell him . . . get something I bond with! Thanks a lot everyone!

How to Critique Horses - read this if you want to comment

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here are the rules about how to critique horses in the conformation clinic. Please check back here as this forum progresses since we will be making updates as we go along.

1. Be honest but friendly.
All horses have flaws -- you can certainly point them out. BUT, do not say things in a way that could be construed as rude or overly negative.
Keep all comments focused on the horse. Do not say anything critical about the owner.

2. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.
Just like how all horses have flaws, they all have good points. If you have something negative to say, be sure to also include a positive comment.
Keep things friendly -- give your comments the way you would if a good friend asked you for your opinion.

3. If you don't have anything conformation-related to say, please PM the horse's owner instead of replying in here.
People posting in this area are looking for conformation-related responses. Even if you're not well versed in conformation, please don't be shy about trying to critique the horse or ask questions about his/her conformation. But, since this is the conformation clinic, please make sure your response does pertain to conformation! Comments such as "he sure is pretty!" should be made via PM if you aren't also commenting on the horse's conformation
.

4. People WILL say things you disagree with.
Keep your comments focused on your own ideas, and not reactions to other people's posts.
If you think you'll be bothered by seeing comments that you think are "wrong" - then don't visit this forum!!!
It is not your job to convince everyone that your opinion is correct. Say what you believe and let others come to their own conclusions.

If people have trouble following these rules, we will make critiquing by invitation only.

He has a cute face, but a short neck in comparison to his body, and it attaches too low to his chest. Nice shoulder angle. Bad top line/bottom line ratio: his top line is longer than his bottom line. Very goose rumped, and he has a very weak hip. Almost no gaskin, and slightly posty hind legs. His front pasturns are long and weak, and he is cowhocked behind.

In response to your question, he would not further the Quarter Pony breed, but he'd make a cute kid's pony one day!

The first thing I noticed his is neck. It ties in a bit low, almost seems ewe necked. And he appears to be cow hocked behind. Those are the two things that stuck out the most to me. Im not real sure about his shoulder angle either but he should be ok. His neck is also shorter than his back, I prefer it the other way around. The back shorter than the neck or at least the same length.

As he is right now, he does not scream stallion prospect. However I have seen ugly ducklings turn into swans and he may be a late bloomer. Heck there are stallions here on HT that weren't much to look at while youngsters but are absolutely knock outs as they matured.

I bet he'd make one cute pony gelding for a kid! There always seems to be a market for those.

I agree with Mafarion and ThorArb, he does not scream stallion prospect. He has okay conformation, but the market is pretty competitive. From the back he looks a little toed in, but that never hurt anyone.

He does have potential though, he has flashy color and he is cute! I want to see him in a year or two to see him filled out and grown up to make a final decision.

He is a cute Pony Cross.. I will not beat him up, he is a baby and things can change. Not all things, but some.

I will state however, that the definate first things I noticed, were his head and neck. Now, the neck can be worked on to a certain degree, but I am not a fan of his head at all right now. His neck is a little short and does not tie in the best. He is toed a good bit out in the back feet. He does look to have a solid hoof base. I do like the front of him in the next to the last pic. HE looks to have decently straight legs. I like his eye. Those are not the best pics for a true assessment of him.

He is a very very cute boy with a pretty color to boot. Stallion material, at this age and look now, NO. Although there are plenty a late bloomers out there, that did not even look like stud material even at 6yo and then matured into one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. To many nice studs out there to take a chance, for me... Good luck in your decision on him. Whatever you decide, good luck.
