AQHA weanling colt

Breed: AQHA
Gender: Colt
Age: Born May 8,2008
Pedigree: www.allbreedpedigree.com/janexsir
I know it is hard to judge these youngsters but I would like some opinions please. I would like to halter him and then get into some speed events when he is older. I am also wondering if he shows enough promise to be kept a stallion? I can take critisism so don't be shy with your comments! This guy has now sold but would still appreciate comments! Thank you.

How to Critique Horses - read this if you want to comment

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here are the rules about how to critique horses in the conformation clinic. Please check back here as this forum progresses since we will be making updates as we go along.

1. Be honest but friendly.
All horses have flaws -- you can certainly point them out. BUT, do not say things in a way that could be construed as rude or overly negative.
Keep all comments focused on the horse. Do not say anything critical about the owner.

2. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.
Just like how all horses have flaws, they all have good points. If you have something negative to say, be sure to also include a positive comment.
Keep things friendly -- give your comments the way you would if a good friend asked you for your opinion.

3. If you don't have anything conformation-related to say, please PM the horse's owner instead of replying in here.
People posting in this area are looking for conformation-related responses. Even if you're not well versed in conformation, please don't be shy about trying to critique the horse or ask questions about his/her conformation. But, since this is the conformation clinic, please make sure your response does pertain to conformation! Comments such as "he sure is pretty!" should be made via PM if you aren't also commenting on the horse's conformation.

4. People WILL say things you disagree with.
Keep your comments focused on your own ideas, and not reactions to other people's posts.
If you think you'll be bothered by seeing comments that you think are "wrong" - then don't visit this forum!!!
It is not your job to convince everyone that your opinion is correct. Say what you believe and let others come to their own conclusions.

If people have trouble following these rules, we will make critiquing by invitation only.

At a glance, the only thing I don't like about him, is how low his neck ties into his shoulder. Visually it's not as appealing, but it may not effect how well he carries his neck.
He has a gorgeous face, an awesome huge hip, nice slope to his shoulder, and already has nice muscling to him. Legs looks straight as well. He's built well, and is very handsome.

Over all he is quite nice for his age. I will agree about his neck however I am guesing that it is more of a "Milk neck" and as he ages it will change and look like it ties in better. I have seen quite a few weaners that look like that and as they age it changes.

He also looks like he is a nice mover. If I was looking for a halter prospect or even a performance prospect like HUS WP Trail I would look at him further. Especially a video.

Now this is a good lookin' colt. I really like how he is put together, even at this early of an age. I think his neck is just the typical milk neck that many tend to get and will look better as he continues to grow. There really isnt too much that I can pick apart about him at this point. He's got that gorgeous liver chestnut coloring, excellent muscling, and his face is very refined. I love the way he is put together. Just at first glance I could see him possibly growing into a nice well rounded stallion.

This is really not my breed but that is a gorgeous colt................wouldn't kick him out of my barn! He has a very nice buid for his age, and quite a good bit of muscle too. I like the way his neck sits but that is JMO! beautiful head as well.

Yes, he sold shortly after I posted this critique! But still like to know what people think about a colt that came out of my breeding program.

I think he is overall well-defined for his age....and his liver color is makes him stand out in a crowd. I like him!

Pretty color. His head is attractive, his ears are on the longish side. His throatlatch isn't visible, but the neck obviously has some length. Mom (if that's her in the photo) looks like she passed her neck on and she has a nice throatlatch. The neck gets thick and ties in a bit low at the base, I would say this is his worst fault, but attaches nicely at the top. Average shoulder. He looks like he will develop a decent wither (babies just don't have much) Short back with nice muscling along the topline. Good hip, nice hind legs. Do his knees turn out or is it just the photo? It looks like he might be a bit over at the knee but foal legs can change quite a bit. He looks fit and shiny and well fed, nice condition. Nice colt.
