Sunshine, Yearling AQHA Filly! Comments please...

Breed: AQHA
Age: Yearling 07
Sex: Filly
Height: 13.1 HH
Job/Future Use: She's my best buddy, Being Shown Locally in Halter, My Western Pleasure prospect and will possibly reining??? Any ideas???
Other info: It's all in the pedigree. The sweetest baby I've ever had the pleasure of working Smart, Kind, Sensible.

We placed 2nd in our first Yearling Halter class, Judge saw no problems with her legs or feet while standing or moving. She did well considering she had not been clipped at all, was furry and had dirty socks.
I don't have enough Good things to say about Zippo Pine Bar Breeding. http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/mcr+blazing+sunshine

How to Critique Horses - read this if you want to comment

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here are the rules about how to critique horses in the conformation clinic. Please check back here as this forum progresses since we will be making updates as we go along.

1. Be honest but friendly.
All horses have flaws -- you can certainly point them out. BUT, do not say things in a way that could be construed as rude or overly negative.
Keep all comments focused on the horse. Do not say anything critical about the owner.

2. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.
Just like how all horses have flaws, they all have good points. If you have something negative to say, be sure to also include a positive comment.
Keep things friendly -- give your comments the way you would if a good friend asked you for your opinion.

3. If you don't have anything conformation-related to say, please PM the horse's owner instead of replying in here.
People posting in this area are looking for conformation-related responses. Even if you're not well versed in conformation, please don't be shy about trying to critique the horse or ask questions about his/her conformation. But, since this is the conformation clinic, please make sure your response does pertain to conformation! Comments such as "he sure is pretty!" should be made via PM if you aren't also commenting on the horse's conformation.

4. People WILL say things you disagree with.
Keep your comments focused on your own ideas, and not reactions to other people's posts.
If you think you'll be bothered by seeing comments that you think are "wrong" - then don't visit this forum!!!
It is not your job to convince everyone that your opinion is correct. Say what you believe and let others come to their own conclusions.

If people have trouble following these rules, we will make critiquing by invitation only.

That has to be one of the nicest yearlings I've personally ever seen
She has better conformation than my full grown qh The only bad thing I have to say about her is that she seems to have crooked feet. Otherwise she seems to a pretty straight topline, not butt-high or has high withers. IMO She has a rather long, skinny neck too, which I don't (think) you want that, but I don't know about westren events that much

Do you have pictures taken from the front straight on, so that her front legs can be better viewed?

WOW! Gorgeous girl...she could be my gelding Sampson's twin from another mother Seriously though she is an absolute conformation beauty; I never would have guessed she was a yearling! Nice straight legs, feminine head, awsome muscling-especially that hindquarter. Beautiful neck that ties in well to her shoulder.
Will be thrilled to watch her grow up on HT with ALL of us!

She is in very good weight, but her neck looks thin. It's hard to tell from the picutures well enough though. She has a really nice shoulder. Nice big hip, but her tail is set just a very small tad low. She has very, very long pasterns in the front and the rear are more upright. Her back legs seem to toe out.

Thanks for the comments! The thin long neck is more desirable in halter horses. I'm having my vet and farrier give their opinion on her back feet. I try to set her up differently and it depends on how she is standing. I will get some help and get a nice straight on pic of her legs. I am so happy to have her and can't wait to see how she grows.

A long thin neck is more than just a halter "thing"-the neck acts like a tail on a cat-except in reverse-you get better overall balance and movement.
Having a long refined neck is very important in western pleasure-you will find your horse more responsive and collection will be much easier than a short thick necked horse. Those thick necked horses are heavier, typically, on the front end.
She is a nice type-very nicely balanced through the hip and shoulder-nice trapazoid. I am a little concerned over the length of her pasterns, they seem pretty weak, especially in one of the pictures and might give you problems as she is started. You might want to consider leaving her for serious training until she is mid to late 3 year old.
Zippo Pine Bars typically mature a little slower.
Be sure to get her HERDA checked on her

Thanks, She has a nice little build but is not a very tall yearling. I worried that she may not be tall enough, but if she ends up 15HH I'll be happy.

She should make a nice wp horse. The way her neck ties in she should be able to move well with it at vertical or a bit nower. Her hip is quite nice and over all balance is quite nice. One of the things I see that I really do not like but might be the picture or just her age is her neck itself. It looks long and thin. Just dose not fit quite right. With training and her filling out it might match up latter. As yearlings some things just grow fater then others. Also her pasturns in the front look line. This should not be too much of a problem in WP however for reining it is just too demanding and she may not hold up. Her rear pastures do not look as long and the angles do not look like they match but that again could just be the picture on both things.

Over all for a yearling she looks as she should for her breeding. You again can see the Zippo in her and I would love to see a video as she looks like she should be a nice mover.

Just my 2 cents worth,..., I can't say enough good things about Zippo Pine Bar bred horses either. They have a certain look, are loaded with common sense, and have a great work ethic.
She's very beautiful.

Nice looking horse. She has a great eye. The only flaw I noticed, which may tend to get better with age, is her pasterns look long. I like her short cannnon bones though. I would also probably wait to start training her because of the pastern issue. Overall, the girl looks like a quality animal.
