Nippy, Stallion, 2 yr old BS paint

Breed: Breeding stock paint
Age: 2 years old
Gender: Stallion
Height: 15.2
Horses current job and future intended uses: None at moment, thats why I would like to have him critiqued, to find out what people may think he looks good for, if anything.
Additional Information: I just recieved this horse in the last week, I have started ground work preparing for saddle, Have had him saddled, and put weight in the stirrup, just haven't done enough ground work to put my butt in the saddle. Let me know what you think. What does he look like he would be suitable to do (WP, Barrel, Halter ect.).

I am new to the show biz, so any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated ( positive and negative.) Thank you for everything in advance.

1. Be honest but friendly.
All horses have flaws -- you can certainly point them out. BUT, do not say things in a way that could be construed as rude or overly negative.
Keep all comments focused on the horse. Do not say anything critical about the owner.

2. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.
Just like how all horses have flaws, they all have good points. If you have something negative to say, be sure to also include a positive comment.
Keep things friendly -- give your comments the way you would if a good friend asked you for your opinion.

3. If you don't have anything conformation-related to say, please PM the horse's owner instead of replying in here.
People posting in this area are looking for conformation-related responses. Even if you're not well versed in conformation, please don't be shy about trying to critique the horse or ask questions about his/her conformation. But, since this is the conformation clinic, please make sure your response does pertain to conformation! Comments such as "he sure is pretty!" should be made via PM if you aren't also commenting on the horse's conformation.

4. People WILL say things you disagree with.
Keep your comments focused on your own ideas, and not reactions to other people's posts.
If you think you'll be bothered by seeing comments that you think are "wrong" - then don't visit this forum!!!
It is not your job to convince everyone that your opinion is correct. Say what you believe and let others come to their own conclusions.

I would geld him, there isn't really a market for solid paints :P

He looks like a nice guy, is his lower jaw longer than the top or is he just making a face? He seems to have nice bone, but has mutton withers. He may be good at barrels!

His throatlatch seems a tad thick, and his neck is a bit thick, but his face is cute I did notice that his lip is droopy in both photos, is that becaues he was sleepy?

He looks like gelding material to me. Overall he just looks like a friendly old gelding. He's got good height for a 2 year old. This is a tuffy for me, when I look at the back half of him I see HJ, but the front I don't know. I don't see HJ, WP and definately not halter. Maybe barrels I don't know, sorry I'm stumped on this one. I have to ask though, is he as sweet natured as he looks?

I would geld him. He is a nice looking horse, but not stallion material. He looks like maybe a barrel horse. He looks really mellow.

He is very sweet natured. Very quick learner, I love everything about him. I have listed him for sale as is, with special note that the more I work with him the more the price goes up. I am asking $500 as is right now. Just thought I would have him critiqued to see If I was asking too much or not enough. Sounds about right I guess. Prior to these pics he was laying down on the ground and my daughter was laying on him. Greg went to get the camera and he got up. As for his bottom lip, I had not noticed it till these pics, so I am hoping it was just that he was woke up by my daughter and he was still sleepy. I will check it out a little better today. Thankyou everyone for the wonderful insights, I appreciate it.

He is a handsome young fellow.

Here's what I see and I'm terrible with critique.

I really like his neck[I'm big on thicker necked horses]

He has clean looking legs from what I can tell from the sides.

He has a cute face!

I think the lip thing is just because he was sleepy.

I would geld him, I know that when I'm looking at horse ads, stallion usually drives me the opposite way, even if it is the most well trained stallion ever.

He would be great for barrels I think. He's got a strong hip[good for pushing out of those turns]
Great height. He'll be able to get around the barrels, but also cover some ground between them.

He is a pretty boy. I think $500 is a good base price. Good luck with training him.

I like the overall look of him. He looks like he'll make someone a great riding horse. As mentioned above he has a really thick neck. He has a really nice rear on him though. His legs look pretty clean to me but without a shot from in front or behind its hard to tell. He looks as sweet as you say he is If he has the personality for it, he looks like he'd make an awesome trail horse as he looks to be built pretty solid. And so, he'd probably be able to carry a rider for many miles with the right training. I know this is confo., but since you mentioned the price I will say that seems like a fair price to me for an untrained BSP. Around here, trail horses are doing really well in the market once they're proven to be good. So maybe if this is something you want to pursue your price could go up substancially. If you geld him, it may make help ease of sale.

The only bad things I see about him are are thick, low set neck and a too short and sharply sloping croup- goose rumped, a bit.

He's a cute guy!

He has a very decent set of legs on him. He has a nice short strong back, and good size. He is really thick and short in the neck, which will make him heavy on the forehand, and less flexible. His shoulder is on the straight side. I am not sure what discipline I would point him at, but anything that would require him to be light and catty would probably not be his forte. He looks like a nice quiet guy and like he will make a great family type gelding. I do believe you would get him sold faster and possibly get even more money if you had him gelded. Most folks are very imtimidated by the word stallion, do not have the facilities to house them away from other horses until they are gelded and do not want to wait to get started training them while they heal from being gelded.

Thank you for all of your kind replies. I am going to have him gelded next month, since financially it is not possible right now. I have the farrier coming out in 2 weeks to get his hooves trimmed, since I believe they have never been done other then the little that I took off ( just cuz he looked so uncomfortable with the long toes.) I will also get a coggins on him and get him utd on all shots to help with selling him.

Well he's a cutie, and I like him although I'm not sure what I'd train him for. His negatives are a short, thick neck with being a bit thick in the throatlatch. He also has hardly any withers and I would like to see his croup more round. It does kindof slope sharply. His shoulder is kinda straight as well. His feed need some work as well, he almost has underfun feet.
Positives are his really sweet, calm look that he has. He has good height to do a lot of different things and a nice short back. It also seems like he would carry his neck pretty level which is nice, based on how he stands naturally. On a side note it looks like he still needs to fill out a bit more. He'll look great with a little more bulk and muscle to him, as he matures.

Hm.. way to be helpful Yogi.. she just posted that he is going to be gelded next month. Now.. to the conformation question at hand...???

I really like this boys body from the shoulders back. As everyone has pointed out, his weakest points are going to be his neck and throat. I don't mind his coup at all, would probably help get his legs up under him and may balance out the heavy front a little. I would work on some neck stretching and flexing exercises to build up the top of his neck, it should make it look longer than it does now, and hopefully take off a little throat too. His legs are nice and clean, but almost look dainty compared to his body.. he is a beefy guy. Can't wait to see him mature! He looks so sweet.. what a nice easy going guy.
