Gode Du Bois

Gode Du Bois
Breed: Selle Francais X Hanoverian (Godewind, Matador du bois, Nankin, Alme z, Jus du pomme)
Age: 2 (coming 3 in July)
Height: 16 hh so far
Current job: hay burner, and very light lunge work
Future job: Hoping to be a upper level jumper like his full brothers and dam or an upper level dressage horse like his father and other siblings ...maybe eventing ... I really dont know :P

Basically he is my dream horse knowing both of his parents personally and dont want to ruin him by training him the "wrong way" so conformationally related training tips are very welcome too!

... he is resting one of his hind legs, I cant seem to get pics of him actually standing still. sorry!

He isnt putting all his weight on one leg in this so ignore that :P

How to Critique Horses - read this if you want to comment

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here are the rules about how to critique horses in the conformation clinic. Please check back here as this forum progresses since we will be making updates as we go along.

1. Be honest but friendly.
All horses have flaws -- you can certainly point them out. BUT, do not say things in a way that could be construed as rude or overly negative.
Keep all comments focused on the horse. Do not say anything critical about the owner.

2. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.
Just like how all horses have flaws, they all have good points. If you have something negative to say, be sure to also include a positive comment.
Keep things friendly -- give your comments the way you would if a good friend asked you for your opinion.

3. If you don't have anything conformation-related to say, please PM the horse's owner instead of replying in here.
People posting in this area are looking for conformation-related responses. Even if you're not well versed in conformation, please don't be shy about trying to critique the horse or ask questions about his/her conformation. But, since this is the conformation clinic, please make sure your response does pertain to conformation! Comments such as "he sure is pretty!" should be made via PM if you aren't also commenting on the horse's conformation.

4. People WILL say things you disagree with.
Keep your comments focused on your own ideas, and not reactions to other people's posts.
If you think you'll be bothered by seeing comments that you think are "wrong" - then don't visit this forum!!!
It is not your job to convince everyone that your opinion is correct. Say what you believe and let others come to their own conclusions.

If people have trouble following these rules, we will make critiquing by invitation only.

OOooh, he makes me miss mine. I sold himto buy my new fancy trailpony when I quit showing all together.

Does he ever have an amazing hip. Have you seen him free jump? Is he phenominal?

He looks immature.I think you re doing the right thing taking it slow. If he doen't shoot up, I bet he will bulk up a lot.

Powerhouse in the making.

The only flaws I could point out were: neck could ideally connect a bit hight (but I see lots of WB's with this), his shoulder could have a better slope, and from the pictures, he seems like he is tied in under the knee, but I'm not positive. He looks like he'll be able to jump the moon one day!

Might I just take a moment to say that Selle Francais are amazing horses, and I am envious of this guy.

Now that I got that out.
He has a shoulder much like my Thoroughbred mare had, who was 15.1h mind you, and she jumped 3' effortlessly; I mean, room to spare.
Being that he's only 2, I can see him filling out to be one heck of a sport horse...
16h at coming 3yrs old, with those giant canon bones tell me he'll hit at least 16.3h; Big boy! Again, I'm envious....
I really can't see any major flaws, and I absolutely love his neck.

thank you ladies!

Yes I love his hip, his LS joint is actually directly above his point of hip! Ive only known one other horse that was that lucky ! and yep his shoulder was the only thing I didnt really like about him however he is a big floaty mover despite it so we shall see what he turns out like....and yea I kinda wish his neck connection was a wee bit different.

as for free jumping we sure have, he went 4' his first time through the chute. He was clearing it no problem however at his age I didnt feel comfortable pushing it at all.

His shoulder is a little bit different looking from those pics but still nothing to write home about haha!
