Drifter, 3 year old, solid paint

Name: Dlux Ready Edition (Drifter)
Pedigree: http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/dlux+ready+edition
Age: 3 years old
Breed: Solid Paint
Height: 14.1 hands (I think he will mature out around 14.2-14.3 hands. His rump is currently just over 14.2 hands.)
Use: He has just lightly been started under saddle. From his pedigree he was mostly WP bred, but I plan to use him mostly for trail riding and maybe eventually some novice-level competitive trail rides in a couple years for fun.

How to Critique Horses - read this if you want to comment

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here are the rules about how to critique horses in the conformation clinic. Please check back here as this forum progresses since we will be making updates as we go along.

1. Be honest but friendly.
All horses have flaws -- you can certainly point them out. BUT, do not say things in a way that could be construed as rude or overly negative.
Keep all comments focused on the horse. Do not say anything critical about the owner.

2. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.
Just like how all horses have flaws, they all have good points. If you have something negative to say, be sure to also include a positive comment.
Keep things friendly -- give your comments the way you would if a good friend asked you for your opinion.

3. If you don't have anything conformation-related to say, please PM the horse's owner instead of replying in here.
People posting in this area are looking for conformation-related responses. Even if you're not well versed in conformation, please don't be shy about trying to critique the horse or ask questions about his/her conformation. But, since this is the conformation clinic, please make sure your response does pertain to conformation! Comments such as "he sure is pretty!" should be made via PM if you aren't also commenting on the horse's conformation.

4. People WILL say things you disagree with.
Keep your comments focused on your own ideas, and not reactions to other people's posts.
If you think you'll be bothered by seeing comments that you think are "wrong" - then don't visit this forum!!!
It is not your job to convince everyone that your opinion is correct. Say what you believe and let others come to their own conclusions.

If people have trouble following these rules, we will make critiquing by invitation only.

I wanted to post a quick update on this guy - I measured him yesterday and he is now exactly 14.2 hands.

I don't know anything about WP conformation, but will be happy to chip on on him as a trail prospect.

I like his rear end, prominant withers, and he really looks to have good heavy bone mass. His heart girth looks to be good for his age.

I also like his condition - he's about in the same condition I like to keep mine - just a tad lean.

My personal preference is for a shorter back, and larger hooves. His neck appears a little short for my taste, but that may be optical due to the longer back or camera angles.

He really seems to have massive shoulders, which I have no experience with as I breed for narrower front ends, and he does appear to be ever so slightly over at the knees., but not enough to be of any consequence.

He should make a good trail horse - a little heavy for endurance, as most quarters and paints are, but you ought to get 15 or 20 miles at a time out of him...

dont know enough about conformation critiquing, but in that second photo, he looks like an Oldenburg honestly, that photo without his breed listed would've made me look double times before realizing he isnt a oldenburg ...

he is handsome, thats one thing for sure

I think he is more of a cow/trail/working horse then a WP pleasure prospect.. I like the way he is built.. He is proportional - nice hip, good bone, and a pretty head.. I could see this boy roping, or team penning with ease..

Cow/trail/working horse is fine with me. The only reason I brought up the Western Pleasure is because his sire and grand sires on both sides are all WP point earners. However, I have no intention of getting into WP. I prefer a nice relaxed trail ride compared to the show ring.

Roping or team penning...hmmm...never tried those before...

He would be perfect for wetern pleasure.

Long undrline, perfect neckset. lots of overreach. Nice long and lean look, but it his movement shot he doesn't move toobig. Look at the balance betwen his shoulder and hip angles. Picture perfect. Smooth elegant topline. I'm notsuper crzy abot his head, but it is just fine.

For a trail horse I bet he is a smooth mover that you can go all day on.

look fantatic in a big squre skirted show saddle with lots of sliver.

Good breeding always tells
