Conformation Clinic #5 ~ Cremello Paint Mare

Before you respond with a critique, please make sure you thoroughly understand the guidelines. If you haven't already done so, please read them here:

http://forum.horsetopia.com/viewtopic.php?t=5936

Also, please forego comments such as "He sure is pretty." Or "I like him a lot". The participants here are looking for technical critiques.

Time for our next Conformation Clinic candidate!

1999 cremello tobiano paint mare.

About 15.1h.

Mr. Impressive, Skipper W, Crown Collection and Blondys Dude bred.

Just using as a trail horse/broodmare, but would like to do hunter under saddle or western pleasure with her.

Have fun, and critique away!

I like this mare.

Nice long hip, sloping croup. Legs look good, although in the one head on shot right rear looks slightly cow hocked, could be the way she's standing, but either way it does not appear enough to affect performance.

Nice pleasing head with wide forehead and wide set eyes.

Neck has plenty of length but may have to be sweated slightly in the throat latch to get easier flexion.

Neck is set well on chest, could tie in a little higher, but it is more than high enough.

Shoulder could have a little more slope, but it is fine.

I know this may sound nick picky...but comparing with my "perfect fantasy" horse in my mind. (boy...scarey aint it)

Overall, I like the mare a lot and she appears to be well suited for the job intended, if she doesn't bulk up to much for Hunter when she starts doing work.

The first pic does not do this mare justice as the second one does.
This mare has great conformation.
Legs look nice and clean. Neck ties in to the shoulder with a super
chest and rump to put that balance.
Her head looks proportioned to her body. Sweet face.
I like one with a some cow hock. Not a fault to me.
Super nice mare.

She sure has a subtle hint of cadillac car! She is a little long backed by standards but this is a plus for a mare. Mares like this raise big foals due to a roomy uterus. I am with Ron on her shoulder and neck. Her neck is long and well shaped ( a little heavy in the throat latch but not bad). She is definately pleasure horse bred with a little halter horse visible in the head. She looks like she would track up well behind and be very smooth gaited.
The only thing I would really like to see is more hip depth to power that long front end and a tad more in the size of her foot. His pasterns are good and the legs clean. She appears slightly cow hocked but maybe something in the angle of the picture. Cow hocked is a good thing in my book any way. She is a picture and cremello to boot. She is a winner and welcome to visit my stud any time!

This mare looks pretty well balanced to me, though a little long in the body. I don't see any thickness in her throatlatch and not a hint of being cowhocked, as her hind feet do not turn out. A horse that is perfectly straight does not usually make a good performance horse, so a little tip in to the hocks is not a bad thing. She has good whither height and a nice slope to her shoulder. Nice slim neck, but I don't think she has enough leg under her to be a good jumper, though maybe enough for the lower jumps at breed shows. She has a nice head with a slim muzzle and a good jaw. I would love to see her movement.

First of all WHOA...you are out there in a pasture with horses and you don't have ANY SHOES ON!!!!!

OK...now for the conformation stuff. I like her head although it's a little boxy. Her neck is very nice...but it ties in a tad too low. Her shoulder angle is good and she can probably trot out very nicely. Her hind leg is set too far out behnd her. Her back is about the most glaring thing to me as it's WAY too long...but again for broodmare purposes this is OK. Her feet are too small for her body build so you'll want to keep an eye on her after hard or strenuous workouts, the feet absorb a great deal of pressure. The heavier the horse the bigger the feet should be to help cushion ground impact. Her hip is OK....but for a horse as long as she is it's almost too small. Her tail set is low and desired for a HUS or WP mount. Her legs are thin looking compared to her body..she's also too short for how long she is. As far as her body blend goes her hip and legs look like they don't belong. Her cannon bone is a great length (short) and her pasterns look well angled and sturdy. She might have a problem collecting and getting into a true HUS or WP frame because of her back and the way her hind legs are set but with a lot of collection work and proper calesthetics it could be done. Overall an eye catching mare.

(And please...for your toes sake PLEASE put some shoes on!!!!!!)

Very flashy mare....nicely built...the only thing that I dont like is the pink skin around the eyes and nose...but thats just a nit-picky personal preference. Overall nice mare

Pretty nice-looking mare! I'd like to see the neck come in a little higher and a little more muscle to her hindquarters, maybe a neck sweat to lighten up the throatlatch area.... otherwise she looks to have the build to go well WP, and possibly HUS. Second photo is gorgeous, perfect legs, pretty head, a good-looking horse!

She looks to me like she may have a slight roach back. These can get worse as they age. It may affect her jumping ability, and her back soundness if worked hard. Basically she just may not have the same flexibility in her back as a normal, more concave back would.

I do like her general build and expression. I prefer cow hocked horses for jumping, but they do often have issues with prolonged collection (such as for a dressage horse, or good WP horse).
