Help Me Help Me!!! Update

ok so I have a 15 year old male cat that keeps throwing up. It has been happening for the last three days. He is normally very talkative and friendly, but now all he does is sleep in my bed. His eyes were a little runny this morning. The thing that scares me is that he throws up until there is nothing in his system. He only eats a little bit, which is not normal to him as he is always eating. I don't know what to do.

Sounds like a trip to the vet is in order. He's too old to be waiting to see if he gets better on his own. Good luck.

If this just started, I'd get him to the vet right away. My cat started doing this last week, at first I thought it was furballs. She kept doing it, so I called vet, made an appointment, but by the time I got her in, she was very dehydrated. She died less then 12 hours later. The vet said she went into kidney failure. She was only 8 years old and had 2 or 3 kidney infections over the years, nothing major or to be concerned about.

Watch your kitty's water intake, if he won't drink, try canned food because of the water content in it.

I am not trying to scare you, only prevent what happened to me from happening to you.

All the cats (3) get half a can of soft stuff in the morning to share, but he is not eating a lot of it. And normally I would leave the sink running a bit so he can drink but he wont. I am getting kinda scared. Right now he is walking around but hes not talking to me. I will call the vet tomorrow because its 10:37 at night.

Get him to the Vet as soon as you can. Let us know what is going on. My thoughts are with you and kitty.

Well considering this has been going on now for 3 days, there is no question that he HAS to get to a vet asap!

I thought he was doing better but just a couple mintues a ago he just threw up the biggest amount ever. Called the Vet and he is going in within the next hour or so. The lady said that he will most likely have to go to the animal hopsital cause he isn't drinking.

I'm sorry your kitty is feeling bad, but I'm very, very glad that you're going to the vet.

Is the stuff he's vomiting digested? Or does it look like either whole kibble or like canned food straight from the can?

I have a cat with Irritable Bowel Disease and when she vomits, it looks digested and is a splotch on the floor.

We manage it with high-fiber cat food and the occasional steroid shot.

I hope your kitty feels better soon and update when you can.

it looks like yellow water with maybe 2 pieces of food in it. He wont eat any soft stuff.

With those symptoms, I would wonder about liver problems.

Hopefully your vet will run a CBC and check all of that stuff out.

Good luck.

I'd definitely request bloodwork that shows kidney and liver function.

It's so hard with older cats and dogs, since they sometimes don't show many symptoms until things get very, very serious.

I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

I just lost one of my kittys not long ago to Intestinal Lymphoma. There are so many things that can make them throw up. But when a cat doesn't eat for a few days or more, they can have problems with their liver. I hope it is nothing major for your older guy. Sending positive thoughts.

I am glad you are taking him in. My cat was doing this, vomiting yellow liquid, 2 days before we had to put him down for complete renal failure. I hope that is not what is going on with yours, but vomiting liquid for 3 days is not a good sign.

I'm hoping for good news for you...

His liver is shutting down. The vet bill would have been over 700 dollars and there was only a 20% chance that he will be okay. So, tomorrow I will bring him to my uncle's farm and he will go to sleep for the last time.

I have only had one other animal die on me so I am very lost on how to handle this. I am sobbing as I am writing this. I don't know what to do. Right now he is home with me, but is moving so slowly and you can just tell that he is in pain.

But thank you for everything my HT family, I knew I could count on you guys.
