Need help with kitty issue

Mico is around 9 months old. He is neutered and can be very loving. Like now he is curled up on my leg. My issue he can be very aggressive. Sometimes to me but not as much as he is to Shianne. She can put her arm down, get up walk away, or even go upstairs and Mico will attack her. What can I do to put a stop to this behavior? I know that he prefers me over her but he has no reason to be causing her harm. He always stops when we get on to him but he has caused some pretty big scratches on her. Any tips on what to do?

You could try a squirt bottle for when he were to come after her or this product:Feliway Feline Behavior Modification Spray or their whole room plug in.
I used this when I first moved as 2 of my cats had stressed from the move and it worked to calm them down and settle in

When my young ones try and use me as a scratching post or a tooth sharpener, I hiss at them. Just like another cat would if they went after the other cat. A good loud hiss works everytime. The squirt bottle works also. He may out grow it . But you really don't want to wait that long, cat bites and scratches can get infected really quickly.

Oh ya, we need pictures.

Ok here is Micoli the Great King of Mexico. That is what Shianne calls him. When he is in trouble I call him Micoli every other time I just called him good ol Mico. I hope these don't come out too big. I haven't figured out how to edit them just yet.

The person doing the punishing needs to be the recipient of the agression ...

Hissing does seem to work fairly well. I do also like the spray bottle method, only I use just plain water in one of those bottles used for saline solution. They have fantastic aim and distance, better than most water guns and don't leak as much as a water gun.

We have done the hissing deal. Works fairly well but not consistantly. Then we have done the water bottle. It worked ok too but again not consistant. He would figure out what was coming and stopped going after her while she was sitting. That is when he started going after her while she was up and moving. I guess I can make sure she has a water bottle on her at all times, and knows to hiss at him when he first gets her.

We've rescued tons of cats, and we have an evil little grey tabby that sounds exactly like Mico. We used a spray bottle with excellent results. You just have to be consistant and do it EVERY time. Every other time, most of the time, or when I catch him won't help much. It was also kind of fun to spay, practicing on the fence with flys.

Mico is a rescue too. He was around 4 weeks old or maybe a little younger when I found him in my big trash can. He was afraid of nothing. He started getting into everything he could as soon as his 4 little feet hit the ground. He got himself into so much trouble so early. He is very outgoing and prefers me over Shianne, which is ok if he would just be kind about it. I will get the spray bottle filled up and make sure she knows to use it. Sometimes when he gets her she has no clue that he is coming. Should she spray him when he latches on to her or is that too late?

I always squirted them as soon as they displayed the behavior that is unwanted. If you do it before, they don't get it. Also back the squirt up with a firm no.

Being a kitten, he needs to play....so giving him an alternative thing to do might help. Get a toy and encourage him to play with that. My kittens absolutely loved ribbon attatched to a stick, and I played with them while I watched TV during the commercials...it pooped them out and gave them something to do.

Is he the only kitten in the house?.....sounds like he's lonesome and wants to play but playing with her his way is too rough...a kitten with all that energy is just looking for something to strike out and grab....he needs a buddy. Mine have plenty of buddies but another thing that might help is to bring in a real banana tree or palm tree that's really tall in a large planter (put big lava rocks on top of the dirt) or build him a jungle gym to climb up and play on beside a window.....hope this helps.

Yeah he is the only kitty I would love to get him a play mate but I am only allowed one 4 legged pet in my apartment. He has plenty of toys and I have thought about him just wanting to play. So I do redirect him to appropriate things. He loves one of Shianne's little toys from McDonalds, an anteater. It is a little thing but man he plays with it forever. It is about the size of a mouse. I will see about getting him a little jungle gym set up. Hopefully that will help some. I would love another pet but until I get a house or another apartment that one is a no go.

agreed with the spray bottle and the hissing. Another thing that works is blowing in their faces, it is similar to the sensation from a hiss and will make them stop. I do this to my crazy little kitten all the time

Definitely direct the attention elsewhere as well, maybe have Shianne spend 15 minutes a day playing with the kitten and his toys, he might start to no longer see her as his actual toy.

I found a great toy for my younger 3. A laser light pointer. They chase that thing for hours. My older 2 could care less about it, but the young ones go crazy for it. It only costs about $3 . Best money ever spent on a cat toy.
