Trapped Again ...

I usually bring both of my cats in at night, but occasionally one of them ends up staying out. If they don't come to the door when I call them before heading off to bed, then they have to fend for themselves.

Last night, Oreo was the one who had to stay out. First thing I do in the morning is feed the cats (they stay in the garage)....so I fed Naughty and opened the door and yelled for Oreo.....then I hear meowing like there's no tomorrow and I know exactly where she is -- in the live trap we have set to catch coons. Dumb kitty ... this is the second time we've caught her....you'd think she would've learned but I guess those tasty treats are too much of a temptation. Just wish the coons thought so ... except for Oreo, we've only caught one possum in the last few months. We must have smart wildlife!

This is Oreo a few months after I found her near death and she joined our family....

I just noticed where you are located, and had to stop for a minute, because I was laughing so hard I was crying. Here's why...

I had a boyfriend from Eighty Four. Nottingham Township, technically - up Munn Road ways. Heck, you might even know them... So, I used to spend a lot of time in that area. When Mike was little, his grandpa used to trap for extra income - and because Mike wanted to be just like his grandpa, his grandpa gave him an old box trap. Little Mikey, just 4 years old, set up the trap on the lawn - and the neighbourhood cats all took turns being trapped in the box. Including their own. Sometimes, he'd get a possum. Every morning, he'd run out to see what his trap had caught - and would always let the night's catch out with excitement. One day, his grandpa was visiting. It was early morning, and Mike wanted to show his grandpa how good he was at trapping 'wild animals' - so he took him over to where the box trap was on the front lawn, and opened it up to let out the 'wild kitty'. Nothing came out - but they did hear some scrabbling inside. Mike grabbed the end of the box and shook it - and nothing came out, again, but something was definitely snuffling inside. Now, grandpa took up the trap, and gave it a good shake - and IT came falling out. A SKUNK. A VERY angry one, that chased the two of them around on the lawn for a good few minutes, snuffling, before running off and hiding under a pile of branches. The picture of the old man and the little boy, running away from an angry skunk, tripping and falling all over themselves on the lawn, always makes me laugh... So, when you talked about the cats & the possum in the trap, it caught me totally unawares...

Thanks for bringing back a cheerful memory

thanks for sharing your memory. That would have been funny to see.

Unfortunately, the critters we catch (except for the cats, of course) don't get let loose. We'd leave them alone if they left our yard alone.

We have a box trap out beside the garage. Caught our own cat once too! We sat it up to catch coons since they destroy my garbage. Last two things were possums and DH just left them go. The coons do not get off so lucky!
