post spay question

I got my babies spayed on monday-25th. They are around 4 and 5 months old. Today I nooticed Ruby has a bruise on her belly above her incision. [i]t doesnt seem to bother her at all, i even touched it and rubbed it a little to see if i could feel anything under the skin, but i didnt feel anyhting. Thought maybe i could get a few opinions from u guys i know there are a few vet techs on here and stuff so....should i be worried, or u think its just probably from the surgery!?!?! Thanks all, i appreciate any advice or ideas

it sounds like it could just be from the surgery.

I would think its normal. I know when I had a major surgery I had brusing around the incisions, of course I'm a human and not a cat. Probably just from the pulling and tugging to get in there to remove that baby box.

Probably just the surgery, but still keep an eye on it. Not too much longer before the stitches come out, if it's still there, ask the vet.

It;s perfectly normal some cats will get bruising and others wont. Just keep an eye on the incisions for any signs of swelling or infection. Are they stitches that have to be removed or are they ones that come out on there own?

well its really swollen around the insicion pretty gushy and looks as if there is a ball or something in there. still doesnt seem to bother her, but the other kitty doesnt have any of this no bruising...no swelling. i called the vet they said keep an eye on it and if it gets warm to the touch or red it s probably an infection. I do have to take her to get the stitched out tues. or wed. so hopefully we will find something out then...actually hopefully it just goes away....shes very active and jumps up on everything and plays w/ the dog, maybe i should lock her in the bathroom for a few days so she can recuperate. thanks girls and guys any other ideas?!!?

My last cat I had spayed was the same way was very rambunctious and playful. Actually now that I think of it she too got the bruising and some swelling so I locked her in a large dog carrier till she was healed up since she couldn bounce around as much the swelling went down.
So chances are thats whats going on with your girl. Locking her in a smaller confined area is a good idea lowers the risk of her hurting herself or accidentally ripping out the stitches.

It can be normal....BUT it could also be paying it is starting to get infected.

Clean the area everyday. Use Betadine or some other TAMED Idine 2-4 times a day. Use Antibiotic ointment or wound spray ( ointment is better ) If you have to, you may have to put an E-collar on her to keep from licking it.

Consult your vet.

What you are most likely seeing is bruising and swelling due to the fact that she is active. The more movement that the kitty does, causes more strain on the internal stiches( the main ones you can't see). The swelling can be from that extra movement causing stretching on those incisions. I have seen this quite a few times on active cats and dogs when I worked at the vet office.
Follow your vets advice. Watch for redness, heat, seepage from the incision, and separation of the skin sutures. Also look for the kitty licking or chewing at the incision, lack of appetite, fever, and change of behavior as these will also indicate infection.
