I found a beautiful calico tonight SHE'S HOME update

I live in an apartment complex and have to be very careful who I talk to (sorry fact of life). Took the trash out last night, and met a man walking a dog that looked just like one I used to have, so I stopped to say Hi. He asked me if I'd seen a calico cat, kind of abruptly; I hadn't, and wasn't likely to, since I don't spend much time outside plus my three dogs are manic barkers and scare everyone away.

Well tonight coming home from the barn (wonderful lesson tonight by the way, on cloud 9), I happened to glance down into the park that's right next to my complex, and there in the grass was a calico cat walking up to a man playing frisbee with his border collie.

Went into my apartment and tried to not think about her, couldn't get her out of my head, ended up walking all over the place looking for her...and found her.

Against my better judgement, my son and I brought her home. She's up in his room right now with her own litter box, and food and water dish.

I took her picture, made a Found Cat flyer, and set out to tape them to lightpoles around the park.

With no way to find the man with the dog from last night I just have to hope he hasn't given up searching and will see the signs.

I'm headed out of town Sunday morning and my dogs are boarding at the vet's. I'm thinking of putting the calico there as well for her own safety and that way if I get a phone call I can at least tell them they can pick her up Monday at my vet's; I won't really be home until Tuesday night.

Did I do the right thing by finding her? Bringing her home? Putting up signs? Should I take her to my vet (I'm willing to pay a small bill for boarding but that's it).

I'm really suffering over this. I have recently lost two cats, one at age 18 and one age 16, and I still have two that are both 7. I don't want to think about what it's doing to her family no to know where and how she is, but I also don't know what else I can do to get her home.

Here she is, eating like she's been hungry for a while:

I love a Cali with white. Pretty girl!

ETA: Girl...you better clean your room. You're going to lose her.

That would be my almost nine year old son's room...and trust me, if he would clean it I'd die of a heart attack.

Bless you for going back and getting her and keeping her safe. The city is no place for a wandering kitty. I think that you've done what you can to help find her owner. If he doesn't show up, looks like you've inherited a new family member. If you're so willing, I would board her and have the vet check her for a microchip and health check while you're gone. Just to make sure she's healthy enough to bring home, you know?

Purrrty girl!

She probably didn't have a home anyway. Now she does.

My phone rang at 7:28 am with a "I think you found my cat" message. Got to give her back to her family about ten minutes later.

She is a sweetheart and she's back with her people!
