Blind Kitten

We got a couple barn kittens dropped off at our barn about a month ago. They are about 8 - 10 weeks now.

One, Pip, has started walking into walls etc ~ I think he is losing his sight? His eyes have a dark blue cast to them. He eats well and runs and plays but just walks into things. Also if you call him it takes him a minute to determine which way to go?

Any ideas?

Something about that description is ringing bells with me, that I've heard those symptoms associated with a neurological issue.

Sorry I can't be of more help, but I think a phone consult with a vet might be in order.

Have you had them to the vet yet? For vaccinations, check-up, the normal stuff. If not, that's what I would suggest. Even if you have, a visit would be good. There may be something going on that cold be stopped if caught early. Even if it is something you can't do anything about, it's best to have all the facts. If it is a progressing blindness, there are lots of blind cats that get along just great!!
Please keep us updated. I always worry, the old mama-bear type!!

They had their shots/worming.
This seems like progressive blindness. He was fine but in the last week or so he has started walking into things.

He is normal in every other way - playful, friendly, foracious appetite but he walks into things????

Off to the vet I guess. No problem if he is going blind I just worry about him getting stepped on by a horse

I had one like that, walked into walls, was basically blind as could be. Then boom fine. Was so weird. They vet said it could have been minor seizures that settled down as he grew up. Good luck with him, I did have one cat that had partial blindness he was a great cat.

I have a rescue cat that is blind in one eye. It has a blue cloudy cast to it. The vet said it was because he had an infection as a tiny kitten and didn't get treated for it. Maybe yours had an infection before he was dumped off at your place. And thanks for taking care of those kittens. They are lucky that they got dumped at someone who cares.

When I was 8 we had a kitten that kept running into walls and the legs of the table, we finally figured out she was blind. She never had any other problems and could get around perfectly fine once she figured out where everything was situated. She walked with her face close the ground to feel her way around but she still ran around like a fool when playing with our other cats. If we moved any furniture she would spend a few day's trying to jump onto the couch that wasnt there anymore, and we just had to be sure that if we moved the litter box to put her in it so that she would know where it was. Even when we moved it only took her a few day's to take everything in before she was running around again. She lived to be 11

We have a kitten here, her name is Bounce and she too is almost totally blind. She got off to a very bad start in life thanks to her dumb mother. I really didn't think she or her brother would make it but they are both doing very well now. Bounce is now a house cat as we feel so sorry for her. Perhaps you could do the same with Pip?

Last night he was rubbing up against my daughter's palomino's back legs.
Cash walked away but he picked up his hind legs very high and slowly like he knew he had to watch out for poor little Pip.

The kitten seems happy and healthy. He does have that blue haze to his eyes though and did right from the start. That's actually how we could tell them apart ( both grey tabbies). "Pip is the one with the blue eyes"
