Pregnant Cat [She had them!!]

Hello everyone,

We recently took in a stray cat only to find out I think shes pregnant. I know nothing about pregnant cats and having kittens though I have owned a cat all my life. Im not 100% sure she is pregnant but Im pretty sure. She has a BIG belly and looks to have enlarged nipples. Is this any sign if shes pregnant and how far along she is? Can anyone tell me some things I need to know/watch for?

Thank you for your time.

EDIT: The cat walked out of the room with a skinny belly today!! We had to track down kitties. Shes a black cat and she had 4 black kittens. Sadly two much have been born still born. So we have two healthy looking live kitties and mom is fine. Will post pics soon.

Coming from a vet tech, the best thing to do is take her to the vet and have an exam done to make sure she is preganant. She could be having what they call a false preganancy as well. The vet clinic would be your best bet to determine the outcome. Good Luck.

The cat will become restless when she starts to go in labor, you might find that she finds a quiet space in the house that she goes to sleep in and lays in frequently, She is looking for a quiet place to have the kittens, If the place she is going to is OK, with you, you might want to line it with old towels. My cat went in an old sink under the basement stairs that wasnt being used, and she had the kittens in there.

They are pretty self sufficiant animals, Most times you wake up and kitties are there.

I did however have to help mom on her last kitten, I noticed 1 leg of the kitten hanging out of mom, with every push mom was struggling and kitten wasnt budging, so I had to help her deliver that one, and all was well.

Good luck and make sure you share pics.

Thank you soft rider. I have had to watch and even assist in horse and goat births so Im thinking well be ok here. Just wanna be prepared. This was not something I wanted to do. But I will deal with it, and find the kittens great pet homes. And they will stay til they have those homes. Just a bit annoyed with myself I didnt get them their in a hurry now cause maybe we could have done something about it earier on in the pregnancy.

Thanks for taking in this stray cat. Sounds like she will have a good home with you. Good luck with the babies. Got any pictures of her?

Thanks for loving this mama cat and giving her a home.

If you look at my post about being on "Kitty watch"...there are pics of our cat before she gave birth and of the new kittens too.

I would take the cat to a vet also...just to be sure. They can give great advise. Also if she needs shots or has any health issues better to find out and treat it before the little ones come.

Not very experienced myself with raising kittens, but I agree...most cats will have them in a dark quiet safe place (like in a closet in your favorite shoes ), but they will care for the babies on their own. Some cats will spead out where the babies are born (so keep an ear open for little kitty cries.) Normally these soft meows are how you know they are here.

We MUST have pics and best of luck with the litter

I think Im gonna end up setting her up in a towel closet in my bathroom when I think shes close. We have two dogs in the house that Im afraid might find a stray kitty before I do. Plus I want things to be as less stressed on the new mama as can be. I read to use a box and some shredded newspaper for her to be in. Theres also a cat box in the bathroom as well.

Thank you... I love cats and weve rescued quite a few of them already. We actually including this one have 8 cats... Yes Im crazy. But I do what I can to help save the unwanted animals. We tajke in quite a few unwanted animals including horses, goats, cats, and dogs. Some we foster, but alot of them end up staying. Two of our horses are blind in one eye, and 3 are 23 and older. Just makes me so sad this baby is having babies [she appears to be about a yr old]

Sorry about the two little ones, glad however that momma and the rest of the crew are fine. Fairly common with one so young to have a stillborn. Hopefully, if you choose, finding homes for them will not be difficult.

Would love to see pictures of the new little ones.

Thank you. Yeah I read up and it said stillborns were normal. Im just glad mama is ok. And she has two beautiful girls now. I am worried about finding them homes. But they will stay here til they do. I have a friend that thinks shes gonna take one, maybe the other will just stay with mama.

Don't be so sure they are both girls..........it is hard to tell on newborn kitties......FYI pick unisex names or be ready to change Sissy to Sam.

Sorry for the kitties who were stillborn

Congrats on the healthy birth of the other 2 and that mama is doing well

Glad you took in PJ so she could have kitties raised to be loving cats instead of feral ones.

We will need updated pics as they grow.

Yeah it was a bit upseting to see the stillborns. But I am glad the others are ok. I will include more pics. I wish she had not come breed but not all I can do is take care of her babies and her Like I said they will just stay forever if they dont find homes. I will surely take pics as they grow.

PJ has such a sweet face!
Newborns are so tiny, they are adorable. You will be blessed for your kindness to animals.
I look forward to seeing them grow!!!
