Fibrosarcoma (vaccine related)

Hi all...

I have my wonderful feline daughter Littlebit

Well littlebit was diagnosed in January with a Fibrosarcoma and I had it removed, went to an Oncologist and have been hoping and praying that Littlebit would be in our lives a little longer.. So sad to say that this tumor is back and is growing fast..

Does anyone have any experience with these or know of any really good articles to read on the subject..I was told that it is related to the administration of vaccines..

I have a follow up appointment with the oncologist but I am really worried about what they are going to tell me..

Any idea on good questions to ask would be helpful to...

I know that I am going to lose her at some point, but I am not ready to let her go, she has been my baby for almost 12 years..I bottlefed fer before her eyes were even open..

I know that when the time comes I will know and I will do the right thing, its just so hard

I am so sorry to hear about your girl, and I certainly hope that they find something that can help you enjoy her quite a bit longer. I did find some links...hope they are what you were looking for.

I am sorry it is coming back... My dog (rat terrier) had one that was related to his microchip, we had it removed and it has not come back. He had interferon to kill the cells, and they did an aggressive surgery and took out more than needed.

Where was the vaccine given? We are giving ours low on the rear limbs so that amputation is an option. I know that this is not going to help you now but the Rabies vaccine we use for kitties is called Pure Vacc and it is less likely to cause these cancers.

I am so sorry that this is happening to you.

Her vaccines were normally given in the hip area.. The first tumor formed right in front of her left hip..I had my normal vet remove it, and since they were not a specialist they were unable to get it all. Not due to lack of trying, but they were afraid to remove any more body wall due to excessive blood loss..

I was told that if it did come back that it would be just past the incision..sure enough that is where it is, so now it sits on her side but above the hip bone..

I had to opt out for an aditional surgery and radiation as I am not able to afford it. And it would have required me to drive 3 hours round trip every day for 19 days.. I just could not do that since I have to work to in order to live..

Trust me I want to save this cats life, I would do anything and everything to save her if I could...I just had to put a horse down in October '07 because I could not afford that surgery either...that broke my heart as well

Awww...just read this I am SO sorry

I am VERY against vaccinations for indoor cats...I just got a kitten and brought her to the vet directly f/the rescue place...I wanted her dewormed & checked for feline leukemia/aids..NO VACCS.....they took her out and vaccinated her without my permission...I was so upset..
If a cat is inside and not exposed to anything, they really cannot contract the virus...I think the benefits far outweigh the risks not to vaccinate for indoor cats..which is why I had the new cat tested before she entered my house..
I worked for a small animal vet & when I questioned him he was pretty much like well...they want them vaccinated...the feeling was that he makes good $ on them and does it...
I am SO sorry....

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts, hugs and prayers..

Its been a reall tough couple of weeks with I am sure more to come...

From everything I have read and the people I have talked to this is a 2 in 10,000 case not seen very often in the west..the oncologist that we were seeing came from back east and he said it is more common there..I dont know that to be a fact though..

I do have to say that I am now very hesitant to give vaccinations but I am worried about the pros and cons of it now..

Is is better to vaccinate so your cat does not conract any diseases and risk this horrible cancer again or is better to not vaccinate and take the chance that your can may lose its life to any number of diseases out there...

I have been told that if you do want to vaccinate to have it done in a lower limb that way if something like this does occur they can amputate and still be able to save the cats life...

Just some thoughts I had...Thanks again everyone..
