Possessed kitten

ok I really think Mico is possessed. One minute he will be fine playing nicely, getting lovey and then the next he is running and attacking anything that is moving. Mainly my daughters legs as she tries to walk. If I call him back to me when he is doing this he comes running and then attacks my hands. Claws and teeth are all involved in this. Other times he is good as gold. Like now he is asleep, purring on my chest and arm while a little while ago he was going for the kill on my hands and drew blood. He is only around 10-12 weeks old, found him as a 3-4 week old baby. He is getting neutered and all his shots Wednesday. What can I do to stop this behavior? I have tried thumping him on his nose, firmly telling him no, and a water bottle and none of it works for long. I even have redirected his behavior. Works for a while but then he is right back to trying to "kill" mine and my daughters extremities. Do you think we he gets neutered this will stop? Maybe that since he is an orange kitty he is predestined to be forever a fire cracker kitty? I really don't want to give him up but if he keeps hurting my daughter I am afraid I may have no choice, she is getting afraid to move when he is out. Will another kitty friend help? I didn't know if maybe he is lonley.

Quick question to clarify - did you find him as a three week old baby and bottle feed him?

Just need clarification a little on this little guy's past before I offer up my opinion, okay?

It has been my experience that all kitties around that age are ankle biters and kicker/clawers. My kitty that I lost last September at the age of 20 was like that as a kitten, would jump out from behind furniture, grab hold of a leg with his fronts, kick with his backs and bite all while I was walking down the hall. He turned out to be the sweetest cat ever, loved baths and blow dryers and everything, never a raised claw. Have 2 kittens now about 14 weeks old, they are the same way.

But, you can never tell, and if you are going to re-home them it will be easier now than later (and older)

Sounds like fairly normal kitten behavior to me!! I've rescued more cats and kittens than I could possibly count. I have 18 right now! Nine under the age of one year. If yours didn't get socialized by mommy and siblings, it may take longer but he will out grow it. Kittens really should not be seperated from mommy and siblings until they are at least 10 weeks old. Nursing is only one factor, the kittens need to learn how to behave!! Think about taking a foal away from it's mom, and all other horses at a very early age. It's just part of learning what is acceptable and what's not!!
I even have 3 youngsters that thought they should climb me like a tree! Not too bad when I'm in jeans and sweat shirt, but very painful in shorts and t-shirt!
Having a buddy should help a lot, someone else to play with. And priceless to watch!! A kitten his age or just barely older. It would be best to find one that had the time to be socialized, but they can teach each other a lot no matter what.
My youngest are now close to 10 months and have settled down fairly well. It seems like one year is usually when they have become fairly sedate. They still have their "freak outs" but not nearly as often!!

My three youngest are now a year old. They have calmed down alot. What you are describing is typical kitty behavior. Get him a friend his age to rough house with. I have also learned that by hissing at them when they are doing something really bad, they will stop. I also believe that because you got him so young, he didn't have time with mama and litter mates to learn proper kitty behavior. If he tried that stuff with mama kitty, she would have put him in his place. I have 6 cats ranging in age from 7 yrs old, down to the 3 that are a year old. The older cats will get after the young ones if they get to rough. It is a little funny when they get to arguing. My dog Pogo, who is black and white will go running into the room to break them up. We call him the cat referee. But don't worry, it is normal what he is doing. Just make sure that you wash any bites or scratches out really well. And try the hissing thing. It works for me.

Thanks for all the input. I didn't bottle feed him as he was eating wet food. I did get him a milk replacer but mixed it in with his food.
I really love this little guy and don't want to give him up. I am seriously thinking about getting him a buddy. Shianne is terrified to move around when he is awake. He is so funny to watch and has favorite toys. One is a stuffed small puppy dog that he carries around. If I touch it he attacks my legs. He climbs me like I am a tree. I have never been around one so aggressive when I brought him in for the first time he was afraid of NOTHING. I have never heard him hiss, growl or anything like that. He can be so sweet. I will check around today and see if I can find him a buddy. At least I have everything I another kitty would need. And I will try that hissing thing. Shianne will get a kick out of that one.

he needs a kitty friend to roughouse with. My dad's kitten was EXACTLY like yours...he would peer down the hallway just waiting to grab my ankes! And guess what...he was an only kitten! I have always gotten my cats in twos and have not encountered this problem. They will do normal kitten stuff to me (like attacking my toes in bed!!) but they save the serious roughousing for each other. So if you can, get another kitten it really does help!

I would be happy with his behavior, IT shows he is healthy and happy. If he didn't play like this and just laid down all the time i would be worried hes sick. He will grow out of it. A friend will help. And kitty toys. Like mice and scratching post.

I've had cats like him. some just have energy like that and like to play rough. The one would hide under the couch and wait for unexpecting feet to dangle ovr the edge he'd also run cirles then climb the walls lol. My bast advice would be to have him declawed to save everybodies bodies etc.
Another thing that works for the biting(or has for me in the past)bit back I know it sounds gross but it really does work

My cat did the same. We adopted him from this shelter and before he was there he was a stray. He was as crazy as could be! He would pee on our clothes in the laundry baskets! Also he was able to open drawers and cabnets and sit in them! He would jump up at peoples faces, try and jump on the dog, hide behind corners and jump out and cling on to our legs while we were walking! He was nuts!, And the silly thing is, he was fixed! But now hes 4 yrs old and semi normal
We got him declawed (which made a HUGE difference), and made sure we laid off the catnip!

Aaww, kittens don't you love them. I have 2 and my youngest is one. She is my devil kitten. I love her to death. She loves to cuddle and she also loves to play. I will be laying in bed sleeping and I will move my foot and the next thing I know she has pounced on it. her favorite time to play is at night time. I am pretty sure it is a kitten thing and they will grow out of it.

I have always had kittens in twos so this is all new to me. It is so funny that when he gets wild he gets this crazed look in his eye. My daughter knows that is when to watch out. I hate that she gets so afraid of him but he takes his wildness out on her the most. She said she wants to get him a brother and name him Frankie. So I think that is what I will do, I don't want him to be lonley and if it will save my skin then I will do what I have to. I am happy that he is so active. Because I do know I am doing something right. It is just I get afraid to have company over because he eats them and my company leaves bleeding. I had an officer over here one time and Mico ran up and attacked him. The officer said, "I need one of them forget the dogs I can use an attack cat." Of course I thought that was funny but a bit embaressing too. I was like man my kitten just attacked a police officer.
I just put a bell collar on Mico I wish I would have had a camera for that. He went insane. Was running around flipping trying to get it off. I figured if he had a bell on his collar then I could hear when he is fixing to jump me. Thanks for all the tips. And yes sometimes I think all cats are possessed.

I wake up to a tooth in my nose. He has a thing for my nose. At first he comes up purring, like come on mom wake up I want my can. Well if I don't get right on up he bites my nose. I wish he went after my feet like "normal" cats the nose hurt ways worse.
I looked today for a buddy for him. But no luck I wanted another male since he is a boy but I will keep looking. Maybe he will settle down a bit in the mean time.

My oldest cat did this. We took him to a groomer (local petsmat) and had them trim all of his claws (cost about $10) we did this about once a month until he was out of his kitten faze (about 6 months) now he is a very sweet cuddly cat

Lol my one cat I had didn't bite my nose but she's wake my up by tapping my nose with her paws till I opened my eyes then she'd put her face right up to mine and meow really loud at me step back sit down and wait till I moved to get up. If I dared close my eyes to go back to sleep she'd do it all over agian but smack harder and meow louder

Did you know that when they declaw a cat, it's not just the claws? It's like removing your fingers down to the first joint!!
Getting his claws trimmed would work just as well. Besides, the claws are his defense, he would need to stay inside permenently. You can't garantee (sp) that would happen if you ever had to rehome him.
Getting him a brother would be fine, but a sister would work just as well. My girls rule over the boys! Only the spay costs more, everything else is the same!
Please keep us updated! With lots of pics!!
