Apparently I am a cat thief......

This is long, bear with me...

So, I just ran into my next door neighbor, who had quite the story to tell me. Her husband coaches a Little League bb team and at the team dinner the other day, this lady asks her if she has a neighbor who has a lot of cats. Now, this lady (I shall call her Crazy X) lives behind me to the left. My next door neighbor (Nice lady) tells Crazy X that she does have a neighbor with cats (being me, I have four outside kitties and three inside). Crazy X then goes on to say that another lady (who lives behind me and to the right, I shall call her Crazy Y) has two cats that have gone missing - a three legged cat and a "spotted" kitten.

Crazy X then tells Nice Lady that she and Crazy Y have decided that I have stolen these cats Nice lady is by this accusation but gently tells her that no, she is pretty sure that I wouldn't steal anyone's cats.

The really weird back story here is that a couple of years ago, Crazy Y showed up in my front yard and told me that her cat that she had just found and only had a couple of days was missing. She described said cat, and it sure sounded like my one kitty who does wander. I told her that, she seemed to understand that the cat she "found" was one of mine (he is microchipped, but I am sure she never was able to pick him up to have him scanned as he is nuts). I knew then that I was dealing with a nutso person, but chalked it up to whatever and moved on.

Now these two nutballs have decided I am a cat thief. I have never seen a "spotted" kitten around anywhere, and once about three years ago saw a three legged cat, but haven't seen it recently and I certainly have not stolen it! Plus, no strays would be allowed in the yard by my very protective doggies!

I am slightly concerned that Crazy X & Y may try something stupid, like going into my yard when I am not home which would probably not go over well with my dogs.....I tell you, the world is just full of lunatics!!!!!!

I think if anyone tried to come into my yard or house, my 125 pd Dalmatian mix would have them for lunch. If they come on your property without permission and your dog wants to have some fun, oh well, that is there problem. Is it possible that a wild animal got the two she is missing? Tell her to keep them inside if she doesn't want them to wonder off.

Ha - cat burglar! that's what I am....

I have three big dogs, two of which are really wimps, but they bark like they are mean, so hopefully that will keep Crazy X and Crazy Y away. We have coyotes, and they have recently been spotted near my neighborhood ...I would guess the three legged kitty was probably dinner for something around here ...which is sad, it should have been kept inside with that kind of disability.

I always tell people how much I like my neighborhood, but lately I've been hearing some nutty stuff..at least the people on each side of me are really nice and normal.

I have a neighbor like that. About a million outside cats and all of them "hers", but she doesn't do anything but feed them. One of them adopted my house and for some reason my dog let her stay. I asked if I could have the cat fixed because I was sick of finding her babies that the rival tom cats gutted on my porch with my kids in tow. She totally freaked out. no way that was her favorite cat! Every once in awhile she will stop and remind my kids that the cat is hers. I don't think it's left my yard in four years.

What's funny about this whole thing is that if any of my outside guys were to decide to "move" (and I've had one do that over the past few years) to someone else's house, and they wanted to keep him, I would be all for it!!!! One less mouth to feed, once less potential vet bill for the outside guys would be alright by me... I take care of them and all, but they are pretty much wild and won't let me touch them, so if they found someone they liked enough to let them get close, hey, fine by me!

I certainly don't need to kidnap someone else's cats - err, "catnap" someone else's cats

I have had that happen before. A family up the street from me had TONS of cats. I mean over 30. Well a calico fell in love with my place. Climbed on my door, hollared all the time to come in. Well I let it in, I lived on a busy street. I did let the family know that I had one of her cats. No biggie she said. She would pick her up everytime she was headed on. 10 mins later the cat was back at my house. A month later here comes the cat into my house, to my bedroom, to my closet and in MY closet gave birth to 5 kittens. I told the lady and she said oh well why don't you just keep the cat and her kittens, I think we have to many. After that anytime one of her many cats dissappeared I got accused of stealing it. I didn't steal the first one, she gave it to me. I should say that is the best cat I have. Amazing, people can't keep up with their animals and everyone else is accused of "stealing" it.

That's awful. Just lock your pets up and try to ignore the nasty neighbours.

Our kitties are too standoffish toward other people for me to worry about. Our GSD and Lab have a field day if anyone so much comes up our driveway; I'd hate for the person who tries to investigate anything at our house while the dogs were actually loose!

Just ignore them. The Crazies really have nothing to back up their claims, although perhaps letting them know that what they are spreading is considered slander and you could actually press charges since it is defamation of character. I'm sure they wouldn't understand half of it, but it could be funny

Oh good grief! I thought my neighbors were weird - they're looking pretty normal right now. I wouldn't be too worried about them coming on your property if you have the dogs. Just be sure to keep mental notes of what's going on around your place and if something turns up missing or vandalized, well you know who it could be. Sad that it has to be like that.
