Bengal Cats

Okay so I came across an ad for a Bengal Cat. I'm not really interested in one at this time or ever for that matter but I thought the ad was a little weird. Here's the ad....

"Hello, I am selling our Bengal cat, 9 months of age. His name is Napoleon, and he is still going to grow a little bit. He isn't papered, so don't ask. But he is looking for a loving home, he has not had his privates snipped as of yet either. He is a very nice cat, but he is the alpha male of the house, so having other cats would not be advisable. He is not overly suited for young children, because younger kids tend to be rough with him and he just doesn't take well to it. If I knew where my camera was I'd take pictures, but the best option is to just contact me !

Thanks a bunch"

What I thought was weird when I saw the ad was that this Bengal Cat came with no papers. Now in my experience of surfing the net the only people who sell these animals are breeders. All breeders have to have papers on the animal because they are somewhat a wild animal. When you buy one you get papers with it to insure that yes it is a real Bengal Cat and is allowed in the country. At least that is what I've always thought. So what she bought from someone who bought from the breeder and maybe didn't get the papers? Still wouldn't that be pretty stupid? It's the same way in the horse world you want papers. Papers are a good thing

You can get bengals without papers and the fact this boy is not neutered is probably why. Many kitten contracts state the only way you will get your papers is if you get the kitten neutered by 6 months of age and send proof to the breeder. If the person doesn't do that then they don't get their papers. Its a way to try to ensure that a "pet" quality animal is not used for breeding purposes. If this person would do right and get that cat neutered, a lot of its dominant traits would probably be a none-issue.

I also want to clarify another thing. Bengals are considered domestics. Yes, they have some wild blood in their ancestory, but most bengals out there are over 4 generations from that wild blood. They are registered like domestics and can be shown like domestics. Their papers have nothing to do with "being allowed in the country" etc. It has to do with proof of being a purebred - just like any other purebred animal. And just like there are "grade" purebred horses that end up with no papers for some reason, the same thing can happen with cats and dogs. Bengals are no different.

Heck, I have a female bengal here that has no papers. I bred to an outside stud and the whole litter ended up with heart murmurs. When I brought this up to the stud's owner, they decided they didn't want to sign the kitten registration because they didn't want their stud's name on those papers. Makes me wonder how many other heart murmurs their stud has thrown out there. Very frustrating. But if the stud's owner doesn't want to sign the papers, we can't get papers on those cats.

I also have a Bengal cat with no papers, the cattery was getting out of the business so I got him unpapered very resonable. They also ended up giveing us his brother for free but we lost him due to kidney failure a couple of years ago.

My bengals have papers but its a little pointless, since they are not shown just pampered little house kitties
Also, a lot of people think bengals are "wild". Crazy maybe (at least mine are!) but definitely not wild!
