Poor Lucy - UPDATE: RIP LUCY

You may remember, this is the old blind cat that I got from the shelter a couple of weeks ago. Well, she took a big turn for the worse last night, I found her on the floor paralyzed in one leg. The vet saw her today, said she is in some pain, probably won't recover use of the leg and that it was probably caused by a blood clot (Lucy has some heart issues)

So, I am going to give her a day or so to see if we can get the pain managed and get her eating. If she responds, I'll keep treating. If she doesn't, I'll have to have her put to sleep on Saturday. Poor old gal, thought she might last few more months, but if she's in pain and not wanting to eat, then I think its for the best that she go to kitty heaven. At least she won't die in the pound, which was sort of the whole reason I got her out, to give her some time out of jail before she passed on. Just wasn't as much time as I would have liked...

I am sorry to hear about Lucy. I am sure you will try all you can to help her lead a somewhat normal life pain free. If you do have to make that decision, at least the last few weeks of her life was spent with a loved and caring person. Good luck. Prayers are for Lucy to make a speedy recovery.

no matter how short her "free" life with you was, at least you can have the comfort of knowing that she was able to sit/lay on something soft, not have the smell of fear from other terrified cats around her, not hear the bang and clang of cages, not hear the frightened meows of other caged cats......she could feel the soft caresses from YOUR hands, hear the soft ,kind words YOU spoke to her....pain-free, hunger-free, fear-free...those are the things that matter

Couldn't have said it any better. My thoughts and prayers for Lucy.

I feel your pain,as I lost a kitty last year due to a blot clot. His was a saddle thrombus( a clot that lodged in his spine) and he became paralyzed from mid back on down. He screamed in pain when it happened and there was no way to make it better for him. I pray that you and your kitty finds peace in whatever decision you make and that you know that you did the best you could for her.

I had to have Lucy put to sleep today. She showed some improvement on Friday and Saturday, so I was cautiously optimistic. But then Sat. night and Sunday, she went downhill really fast, and by today, it was time.

Sleep well old gal, now you are in kitty heaven and can see and walk and play again.

Very well put. Sorry her days were numbered and you didn't get to share more time with her. RIP Lucy

Thanks everybody for the kind words. I only had her for a little bit but I miss her (we had quite a routine with all the meds and syringe feeding I was doing). I do feel good knowing that she died quietly and while I was holding and petting her - so, she did know love while she was with me and at the end of her life.
