How do you say good-bye!

I went to work today and took one of my cats named Clyde......with the thought of my sweet tabby cat who is almost 8 years old that may not come back home with me.....sure enough, I was right.

Clyde had lost half of his body weight (down to 6.2# and normal was 12#)over a period of a month but acted fine, ate and drank good, and seemed extra happy to see me. He used to be one of my housecats until 4 years ago....we allowed him to explore the outdoors and he loved it.....all my kitties outside have a cat building with kerosene heat and Science Diet food.....so he had a good 8 years with us....had him since he was 6-7 weeks old....and his sister, Bonnie.....

Doc checked his BUN and it was off the charts...of course there's no hope bringing him out of that one.....along with kidney failure, bad breath-specific to the kidney failure process he had a painful, gray colored swelling/ulcer inside of his mouth/right jaw...which was another result/symptom of kidney failure that came up this past week....so I called my husband and told him that I was going to have him put down.....he was also sad because Clyde was the sweetest, cutest cat ever! He never started fights or fought with anyone....

He will be severely missed and I cried after I told him bye and that I loved him...he just gave me that cocked head, big eyed look then looked up at the other vet tech like he was saying, "don't you want to help her rethink this issue of euthanization?

It was so sad, I am usually the one that holds cats to be put down....but I couldn't do my own.....

So, here's my loveable, cuddly Clyde!

I can most certainly sympathize. I am sorry for your loss.

I had to put down my beloved Mr.Biggs with the same thing.

Rest in Peace Clyde.

So sorry you are having to go through this right now -- sending you lots of (((((((((( HUGS )))))))))). I had to put my old cat (21 yrs.) down a few years ago and I still miss him. I had him for longer than my husband !!! I too couldn't stay with my old cat -- I felt helpless and very, very sad. He was a part of the family. Clyde's was a very handsome fellow and hopefully he is frolicking through the fields of kitty heaven right now.

so sorry for your loss but you did the right thing...I had to do the same thing to my Rocky when he had complete renal failure. The only option (and it wasn't even a good one) was to get him a kidney transplant. He wouldn't have been the same cat and everyone's quality of life would have decreased dramatically. Even though its hard you did the right thing. Have comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering.

I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your sweet kitty Clyde. He has a beautiful face. I had my old girl kitty at the vet today and thought it was her time as well but she is home for now while we wait for some test results. So sad when we have to let them go. RIP Clyde

That's very sad. Hugs and prayers for all concerned. Cats are so very easy to love.

I'm sorry for your loss. I just found this poem, it made me cry, but I think it may sum up how our animals feel when we have to make the hardest decision of all.

MAY I GO?
Susan A. Jackson

May I go now? Do you think the time is right?
May I say good bye to pain filled days and endless lonely nights?
I've lived my life and done my best, an example tried to be.
So can I take that step beyond and set my spirit free?

I didn't want to go at first, I fought with all my might,
But something seems to draw me now to a warm and living light.
I want to go - I really do. It's difficult to stay.
But I will try as best I can to live just one more day.

To give you time to care for me and share your love and fears.
I know you're sad and afraid, because I see your tears.
I'll not be far, I promise that, and hope you'll always know
that my spirit will be close to you wherever you may go.

Thank you for loving me. You know I love you too,
that's why it's hard to say goodbye and end this life with you.
So hold me now, just one more time and let me hear you say,
because you care so much for me, you'll let me go today.

He sounds like he was a special boy and really brightened your life for the time you had him. I am sorry.

That is really a good poem. I am sorry SACREDWINDWALKER, that you are going through this now. It is so hard to say goodbye to our loved companions.

Pretty poem, I am sorry for your loss, I have been there my self and God knows how painful it is for you. I don't think your cat was asking the Vet Tech to get you to reconsider as much as saying hurry this up so she doesn't half to suffer over me any longer than necessary. I will keep you in my prayers and hope your heart heals quickly.

So sorry for your loss Sacred, he was a beautiful kitty - love those grey eyes. I can sympathize we had to have our Shadow of 19 yrs put down right before Christmas, same type of problems, kidney failure, etc.
