RIP Sweet Kitty * UPDATE *Sweet Kitty's Revenge!

I am definitely NOT a cat person.

Barn cats yes, inside cats, no.

But, I inherited Sweet Kitty 10 1/2 years ago when my mother died. Sweet Kitty was my Dad's cat, but my Dad had died the year before.

Sweet Kitty was 8 when I took him in. He had been declawed, so had to be an inside cat. He was unhealthy, unhappy, cranky, on special food, and made monthly trips to the vet. Not being a cat person, I wasn't about to do much for him, so I fed him the cheapest food I could find, didn't pay him much attention, and stopped vetting him - figured he wouldn't last long...

Duh! He blossomed, gained weight, got healthy, got happy, and lived with us for another 10 1/2 years! Stupid cat thought I loved him just because I let him lay in my lap, let him sleep with me, petted him, and carried him everywhere after he got arthritis. Can't understand animals...

Anyway, this afternoon, Sweet Kitty crossed the Rainbow Bridge at age 18 1/2...such a hard thing for any pet owner to do, but something that is our responsibility to do when it is time. We've known this was coming for about 2 weeks, but it's funny - he just looked up at me at lunch time and told me it was time.

RIP Sweet Kitty - you were a pretty darn good friend and companion...

What a handsome boy!
You are to be commended for coming from the "dark side" to appreciate cats.
Kind of have a way of worming their way into your heart don't they?
He was lucky to have you

I'm sorry Face, it's hard to lose one. He didn't think you loved him, he knew you did in spite of yourself.

Actually, I too am not a cat person. However, the stray cats around our place over the year kinda capture my heart too.

Oh Face...

I am so, so sorry.

Stupid cat thought I loved him just because I let him lay in my lap, let him sleep with me, petted him, and carried him everywhere after he got arthritis.

*laughs* Hmmm, apparently he had you pegged from the get-go, didn't he? I mean, not one for indoor cats, and he had you on speed dial kitty beck and call... Well, obviously he picked up on your soft, easily manipulated heart...

And let you worship him in the correct way, the way befitting a gentleman cat. You guys both did really right by each other.

So sorry for your loss Faceman. We recently had to let our 18 yo kitty go too. It's hard not to love them when they climb up in your lap, give you that half-lidded look, and rumble, rumble, rumble.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have never been a cat person, until oneday that special kitty entered my life as well. You did a great job, allowing him to "think you were in love".
