Abandoned Kitten

Ok i was in wal-mart today and overheard a lady talking about a kitten she found in the floor board of her car..She thinks the mom saw the door open and thought it might be a safe place to hide the kitten(s) but it was only this one kitten so i dont know anything if there were more or just this one.....The lady was asking advice on how to feed it and everything to one of the employers...I chimed in and told her i had a nursing cat at home to see if she will take it and nurse it....

Ok i got it home now and rubbed my cat with a cloth and rubbed the kitten with it..She is kinda licking it but sorta has nothing to do with it the first 10 min...She did finally lay down and nurse it for a few min but it kept coming off it..Should i get some replacer for it and feed it by hand also or just give it time and it will figure it out...The kitten looks to be about 3-4 days old..It is small and the umbilical cord is dried up but it hasnt fallen off....Im not even sure it got any colostrum from its mom....

Ok it was finally able to nurse for a while...She finally laid down long enough for it to find it and stay on it..I think it will be ok...

She isnt that great a mother to begin with because i had to keep up with her own 2 with feedings and cleaning...

I hope everything works out and it survices..The lady wants to keep it once it is weaned.

My momma cat Missy has taken on the baby and adopted it as her own and is nursing it well....thats what i hoped she would do because it would have been better off like this instead of bottle feeding it and the people not knowing you had to make it pee by rubbing its private.

(Knew some people with abandoned pups like that, they didnt know u had to make them pee by rubbing there privates and the pups where bloating up and screaming cause they had to GO and they all died and the people just thought they were getting fat from feeding.)...

I know bottle feeding isnt bad but this baby is sooooo small and i didnt know if those people knew what they were doing. They have never had a cat before much less an abandoned kitten but they do want the kitten as their first pet when it is weaned...

Pics....

Its soooo small(kinda looks like a mouse)

One of her babies watching over it.

Missy nursing it with help

Missy's Babies..There 5 weeks old(or 6)

That last picture of missys kittens is adorable! I used to have a cat colored just about like them. Except mine had a huge black dot under one eye so we called him Teardrop lol. Hope all goes well with the new baby!

That was so very nice of you to help a stranger like that. I hope the kitten survives. It sounds like it's off to a good start. My biggest fear right now is in it keeping warm enough with not having other bodies to cuddle with.

Keep us posted on her progress.

Me too, im worried it will get real cold and freeze to death, i have a teddy bear beside it because its fuzzy to stimulate another body because my mom cat wont lay with it but she will let it nurse..
i also covered it with a blanket but kept its nose out of it when she isnt nursing

Last night i kept in beside me for a while to try and keep it warm.I didnt go to sleep for a while last night..

It reminds me of a cat i used to have named Lucy, same color and all and i DONT need to get attached to it, im trying to find homes for missy's babies now..I believe they are right at 6 weeks..They eat and drink on there own and know how to use the litter box

I dont have a heating pad but i think that might be too hot for it...

Any other tips on keeping it warm please tell me

haha missy's kitten on the right is her male and the left is the female...

They both have there parents personalities..The male acts just like his daddy and the girl acts just like her momma..

Guessing from the color that it's a female (very 1st pic shows hints of orange along with the brown.) Our two boys kittens had very noticeable protruding boy bits. Definitely boys.

Based on the color of the kitten, I would guess a female too. (looks like a tiger-tortie) Very cute by the way!
You can use a heating pad but it must be layered with lots of towels on top of it so that the baby doesn't get overheated. Rubber (latex) gloves filled with warm water work great too. (cover with towels of course so they don't get punctured)
Thats good that mama kitty is letting her nurse. That is best for baby. Maybe she will eventually want to lay with her to keep her warm as well. Best of luck! She's a doll and so are your little ones!

I was sitting in my computer room and turned around and she was walking with it in her mouth to the box where her babies were kept and layed with it for a while and let it nurse...That thing sure likes to crawl everywhere.

I will see if we have a heating pad in the celler but im not sure if we do or not.She still wont stay with it but hopefully that might change and i wont have to go out and buy a heating pad if i cant find one and she doesnt stay with it but to nurse..She did this with her own babies though sooo i dunno...

Im just glad she is letting it nurse and grow strong..It doesnt have its eyes open so i think it may be like 3-5 days old.So i will give it the birthday of March 30 ..I think at a week old they start opening there eyes right...after it starts doing that i will know its about a week old and can know the almost real b-day of it.

I think their eyes start to open around ten to 14 days old. Do you have a hot water bottle? Wrap it in a towel so it stays warm longer. A heating pad would work better. Position it so it covers only a portion of the box. That way if the kitten gets to warm it can crawl away from the heat. Set it on low and cover it with the bedding I see in your pic.

If she's crawling around a lot it can mean she's cold or it also could mean she is instinctively looking for someone to cuddle with. I used a stuffed toy about the same size as the puppy when I adopted a puppy. It made her think she had a litter mate. If it worked for a dog it might also work for a cat.

Sounds like mom has claimed it. That's definitely a good sign.

Oh, How nice of you to take the kitty home and try to save it. It sounds like it will work out. Baby kittens are so fun! The trick will be not getting attatched to it! I know that would be the battle for me. Keep us updated!!

Determining the sex (gender) of a kitten is easy when you know what to look for.

Take the kitten and look under it's tail. If it is a girl the anus and the genital opening will be very close together. Males are farther apart. They gotta have room for those testicles to grow.
