Cat toilet training?

I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried it? What would some disadvantages be? Does it help with the smell at all?

I have 2 4mo old kittens and I was wondering if it might be worth trying with them? They have excellent litter box manners so I don't want to mess them up, but at the same time I am curious to know if it would work with them.

I actually did this for my last cat.. it was pretty easy, at first I just started with having her litter by the toilet, slowing raising it closer to the toilet bowl, and eventually I put a piece of seran wrap over the bowl with kitty litter on it.. slowly adding less, and then taking it away all together.

The only problem is that sometimes you go into the bathroom and there are little poops in the toilet waiting for you, or sometimes they miss.

Overall, it was interesting, might try it again but I dont mind scooping poop

I did it.

Discovered that some toilet lids are just not made for de-clawed cats to balance on. My boy did great until we moved and the toilet lid was slanted and he fell in.

That was that last time he used the toilet.

Poor kitty....

I did some reading on it because my cats are fascinated by the toilet so I thought why not try and train them to use it? Apparently some people feel that its not healthy for the cat because it takes away their instinct to cover their uh...excrement when done. However, I think if you can do it, go for it!

We had a kitten my husband rescued and bottle fed. Cat considered DH his dad and would go into the bathroom with him. One day we walked by and there he was perched on and using the facilities. He did that for the two years we had him. We gave him to a vet tech who has three young boys. She says he is the best potty trainer she has found. The boys want to imitate the cat
