and YOU thought you were a softy Gypsy Rose

So yesterday at 4:45 I head down the driveway to pick up my son from school. As I approach the road I see this kitty just laying next to it but in my yard and as any "normal" person would do , I stoped to see her ONLY because my cats are outside every night and I wanted to inspect this thing. It looked like she was hunting as she had her sights set on something in the trees but got distracted as I came closer. I then start talking to her cuz I wanted to see if she's rabid, wild, a stray or just a neighbours kitty out hunting. As she turned to look at me her eyes screamed "wild", she meowed, then started walking towards me so as any "normal" person would do I bent over to pet her and what I felt almost made me cry. People, I kid you not when I say that I felt EVERY flipping bone in her spine You couldn't tell she was a walking skelleton as it's cold out now and she had fluffed herself out to keep warm. I immediatly scooped her up and walked the 200 feet back to my house leaving the car idling next to the road.

As I entered the house, Andre looked at me and asked if I had hit her. All I could say was "you have to feel her, she's skin and bones" he told to (and I quote) "just f*****g feed her", he couldn't touch her she is that bad.

It's been about 19 hours she's been here and all she's done is eat and sleep, oh and yep she's pooped . Other than being grossly underweight she looks to be rather healthy and hopefully it won't take too long for her to regain her strength and weigth. So far my cats have accepted her but she is in survival mode and growls evrytime she sees them but no fighting.....yet

These are the photos from last night after her first meal

Here she has settled in and cuddling with Andre

this morning after a full nights rest and lots to eat

Kenya took these, a little while ago, it shows just how thin she is and yes those bumps are her hip bones

I don't think she's taken 10 steps in the time she's been here, we carry her
EVERYWHERE

P.S. forgot to mention that she's only about 5 months old

Kudos to you for taking that kitty in. I would suggest taking her to a vet asap and having a feline leukemia test run (I think that's the one) and check her for worms. I took two strays in for medical attention and the first thing the vet did was the FeLV test to make sure they were negative before continuing any care. FeLV is also contagious so your other cats are being exposed as well.

I concur, but I would get the combo test for feleuk and fiv. plus she probably has fleas. That's super awesome that you took her in. She looks super sweet and cute. I would probably also ask the vet the best way to feed her and get her weight back on since you don't want to add it too quickly. Congrats!!!

Name???

I just adore the picture of her so happy sleeping on the sofa.

She is home.

Thank you and your family for taking her in.

Yes, I think Baby is the perfect name for her.

She looks just like the cat that walked into my museum 17 years ago and demanded a home. Since it was a Friday, we named her Friday-cat and she ruled our house until her passing last fall. Like your rescue, she was a tiny thing, about 6 1/2 lbs dripping wet when full grown, but she kept our rottweilers and shepherd mix and the neighbor's pitty firmly in line, and any mouse that dared to trespass was soon a goner! Since your girl arrived on a Friday as well, I offer you the name in honor of my girl.

Poor girly! At least White Kitty is (and was) well fed.

Name her . . .tigger. lol. I had a cat named tigge that looked just like her, but he was a boy. My Gramma had one named KC (kitty cat) but it sounded like Casey.

Ya did good, PL...she's happy and content, and will be a round fuzzball in no time. And yes, I do the same thing. You're not a 'softie', you're kind.

Congratulations on her...and give us updated photos when you can, all right?

Best-
Noni

Well it's been almost 72 hours since the arrival of our new family member. My son said last night we should call her Whiskers but no one has agreed on it yet. She spent the best part of 2 days in my bedroom while we were away on "vacation" and it is amazing what food can actually do to a living creature . Her personality shines, her strength is returning and none of the other cats go near her. She takes one look, hisses and all bolt . I also think she is going to be a PITA kitty . We got in late last night and as I was trying to sleep, she kept licking my face and trying to shove her snout up my nose I'm like "really is that necessary" and had to get my son to take her to bed with him and when I opened my eyes this morning and she saw that I was not quite awake, she started again . I am soooooo not a morning person but how could you get mad at that .
