Help in removing cat urine odor! PLEASE

Chloe, my dear, darling neurotic Siamese who lives in the basement ceiling and only comes down when no one but I am in the house.... recently went thru the suspended ceiling in the sewing room, got herself trapped there for at least a day, and used a box of fabric for her litter box. I discovered herself, but not her potty use, It has been weeks since she did the deed.

Is the fabric a total loss or is there some concotion I can use to salvage the most expensive of it. ( Like 5 yards of beaded MOB fabric!!!)
thanks in advance!!

Cat pee is the worst. I know that the pet store sell some stuff to take the smell out. I picked up a bottle myself for my male cat who apparently hates my husband and likes to pee in his closet. It reduced the smell, but didn't take it away competely.

I've heard a couple methods and they have worked to varying degrees...

I've tried apple cider vinegar, put about a 1/4 cup in the wash and let it soak, then wash as normal. This method worked OK for pee that had just happened...

Natures Miracle works pretty well. I recently had my cat pee on a basket of CLEAN laundry. I'm not sure when he did it, but I discovered it when it was still wet, but cold. So it had been there at least a day. Again, put 1/4-1/2 cup in the wash, let it soak. I ran it through one cycle with the Natures Miracle, then ran it through again with regular detergent. Worked pretty well, I can't smell it.

Good luck, cat pee is the WORST.

Speaking as the slave to 8 cats, all who have interesting personalities, dried/old pee is one of THE most difficult smells to eradicate completely.

The ONLY thing which I've been able to do is to soak in cold water and baking soda for about 2 hours; change water, do the same thing. Then soak in warm water with some "Shout" and then rinse well, and then....use Urine-Gone or Nature's Miracle and soak in that, changing the water out regularly. And then, spray FOLEX on it...it helps with the neutralizing. Rinse it out.

Then. Wash in strong detergent and wash again. Do NOT dry (or allow to get dry) until you can grab a piece of fabric and NOT smell any remaining urine at all. Wash until you can't smell it at all, and ONLY then give it a dryer session.

And, to be honest, while this has saved many articles of clothing in my house, many articles also have had to be tossed. If one of the cats has a temper tantrum, and pees on something, unless I really, REALLY love the piece (or I need it), the trouble to save it is often far worse than dumping and replacing if needed.

Good luck.

Best-
Noni

There is a product called Eliminate or eliminator or some version of it that is supposed to work quite well.

thanks folks, I will try vinegar soaks next, and I think I can get Natures miracle next time I make the trek to the big city.... now it will be sooner, rather than later!!

I have a skunk stink neutralizer recipe, but it's full of peroxide and I am afraid of what it will do to my black beaded fabric Will try a big dose of vinegar soak.... can't hurt.
