Question Question:

Is there a place you can look up on the internet and find out exactly how many foals a registered mare has had? Will it list who sired the foals? And the foals names, birth dates etc? I'm sorry,I have never looked up this kind of information before.. and I am digging into my mares past now, with the owner I purchased her from and the owners before them,etc..and trying to find out ALL i can..so please forgive me if it sounds "a little ignorant" for asking..but I have never been in the breeding business and have NO clue on where to start with these things.. Thanks,in advance, for any help you can offer me

If she's registered, start with the breed registry's website.

ETA: AQHA's progeny reports lists the foals, sire of foals, foaling date, and any accomplishments that the foals have.

Is the mare registered? If so what registry? You can always try pedigree online, sometimes it will list progeny and siblings for free.

Perhaps you could call the association.

For the walking horses you have to have the ipeds account, It cost $50. And it will tell you all of the above information you had asked about. How many foals, sex, color, sire of, year of birth. It also has a show record if the horse has been shown in TWHBEA shows. Maybe if someone else has the ipeds they could look it up for you. I no longer have it, sorry.

They will only give me name/addresses listed on her registration papers, but would not go any further when I asked about her foals, etc and her having been a broodmare, and I said I was just trying to find out more about her history, thats all..but they stuck with name/address format only very firm and very strict.. privacy act maybe

Sounds like you need to open an ipeds account or find someone who has one.

I was just looking at the I-peds, I thought that was to see if a name was available only? now i do feel dumb..ugh ..well it the lady i spoke with at twhbea didn't budge any about anything, even i-peds..wonder why-i mean you do pay for it and to me it would be worth it,so i could find out more on her history,etc... I got her in July, and those folks had her since 2000- so I would like to find out her history before then because I know she was a broodmare for last 8 years, but I think they said she was shown..so yes this is something I could definitely check out Thanks kyspottedwalker
