Conformation benefit?

Obviously the front end of this mare is conformationally extremely desirable....why?

Um.....not even going to touch that one.

I guess people have different preferences on what is attractive.

She is an HYPP horse, and a freak on four legs, a conformational train wreck that is SO desireable to unethical, greedy halter folks who care about the $ and not the horse.

I think she is gorgeous. If she is HYPP positive thats a tragedy. But yes many breeders think $$ before the welfare of the horse

She looks sweet (personality) but a horses conformation is supposed to help their soundness and all I see in that horse is unsoundness. It's not natural and really sad. I would never pay that for her. Each to their own I guess

What is conformationally incorrect about her? She is hugely muscled but other than that what are you all seeing I am not.
If she is winning in halter she must be pretty conformationally correct or do the judges not know what tehy are doing?

For a halter horse she is perfection. She has nice conformation and the build to go with it. As I am not a halter horse breeder and only show halter to get my youngens out and about. If I was she would be exactly what I would want. Unfortunitly this is what the judges look for in a halter horse. It may not be what a performance horse person wants but for halter huba buba she is it.

My only grip is that a halter horse is supost to be the breeding stock for that breed and be able to perform to that breed standard. That horse could not perform any task a QH was ment to do. That is my biggest pet peez about halter horses but until the judges change what wins people will keep breeding and fitting horses to look like that.

I may be in the minority here, but I think her body is hideous (she does have a very attractive face, I will give her that). I can see no usefulness to her at all. At first I thought she looked like a bulldog... then it hit me that she looks like a PIG. Seriously, google show pigs and she looks just like one. Fattened up for slaughter. I suppose if you look at the breed standard for the Quarter Horse she is extremely close -- but those muscles are so bulky and disproportionate, I couldn't imagine she'd be good at many riding disciplines.

Her ad says she is N/H. Yes ma'am that is a tragedy as she will do nothing but show halter. She has won some money and titles though.. I personally am not a bulky halter fan, she does have a gorgeous face. Would I own her, NO.

I have to agree here too. To me, now a days the QH keep getting bulkier & bulkier, & quite frankly I HATE it, but that's JMO.

I think her body is hideous, I do like her face, but it looks like it belongs on a different horse. When I started this thread I tried to present it without creating bias.

Why do judges find this desirable? Why does the horse industry promote this kind of stuff? It looks soooo unnatural and awkward. Perhaps halter people can explain what that front end can do to help her move.....I am not trying to start a dispute, I am just trying to understand the different perspective.

What is happening to the Quarter Horse we know and love?

Honestly, horses that look like her have been around for a long long time and showing them in halter has been around a long long time, and winning used to be a constantant everytime thing, but that is not the case now. There are many many halter horses out there, that do not look like her that win and win big. THis is really nothing new. Do I like it, NO, do I think the breed standard is going down NO. This is my opinion and mine alone

I love a big chunky "working" QH.....other than her face, I think she is not appealing at all.

If it weren't for the being HYPP positive and the freakishly large muscles I'd think she was gorgeous. God her skinny little legs look like they could snap one day under all that muscle

I am not a QH person though I like the breed. What I don't get is the size that they're breeding into them. My friend's daughter shows english on the national level and her QH is 16.2!!! They are diluting the bloodlines with so much TB to get these big horses. I can't imagine that a horse that size would be considered a good working QH. As for the pali, I think she's a freak! Yes, she does look like a pig fattened for slaughter.

Poor thing, it hurts me to look at her. Too much weight on those tiny legs and hooves. More of a characacher of what a QH should look like. It does sadden me that the QHs are going in this direction with the halter horses sometimes but I see that is the case with a lot of the breeds. The halter winners should also be nice movers and performers as well if you ask me since it is a "breeding" class. I can't help but think of show bulls when I see them this heavy. They hardly look like horses anymore.

I wonder if this mare would look like this naturally or if she is pumped up with extra feed and steroids.

Look at body builders. They have no realy musle they are not strong it is all for show. Same with the horses. It is what wins and it is solly for show nothing more. That horse as it is fitted now would have a really really hard time going into a saddle class and doing anything. Heck I bet you would have a hard time finding a saddle that would fit.
