Stud Advertising

I am wondering where everyone advertises their stallions for stud? We have been steady at breeding 6 mares or so to our stallion over the last couple years. Not huge number of course but I would really like to see if we could double that(if we don't sell him). I am just wondering where all you advertise. Right now I advertise at www.horsetopia.com , dreamhorse.com, equine.com, a local magazine, flyers at feed and tack stores and that is about it. Thanks!

Maybe you could bring him to shows, stallion shows etc. etc.
Invite people to come out and see him ya know show him off a bit

You should advertise in the Appy magazine/newsletter--I am assuming they do one(Paint and AQHA have one) Also see if there are any Appy websites--or forums and advertise there too. Also every horse for sale/stud website. The more the better

Heres a site I found http://www.appaloosasforsale.com/links.php4

Try advertising in bigger magazines like the Appaloosa Journal, AJOX (online version of AJ), and things like that. There's another big magazine that does most all breeds like AQHA, APHA and ApHC stallions. I'll have to find it and post it for you. I find alot of good stallions in it that I consider for my own horses!

Ha advertising in the ApHC journal is a very expensive undertaking. I hope to one day but I can't afford that at this point. I can do a lot more advertising for the dollars I would spend on one month of the ApHC journal.

I know it. Thats the only reason why I dont advertise in it either. Well, I havent really been advertising much in the first place. But it is rather expensive.

Do you advertise him at any shows? Id advertise on any horse website I could. The more publicity he gets the more mares that come in.

I like local horse magazines for advertising in. Their ad rates are usually very reasonable, plus becase they are local, you hit more of your target than you would with a national mag.

Did you know that you can advertise horses for stud on e-bay? I have seen many stallions on there.

I did try ebay. Didn't work well for me. I get very few local bred horses. More AI than anything. I have donated breedings to any state ApHC club that has asked as well. So his name is out there. I need to get his foals into show homes. I think that will help pick things up a bit!

Something you could try is offering a free breeding or two to show proven mares on your ads. You don't have to give everyone a free breeding, limit it to the first 3 or something. But that will get more people contacting you so you can talk about your guy

You should take him to shows and put on your flyer that he can be seen at the show today etc... Take him to some expos. You represent your breed as well as your stallion. You get to showcase in the arena. I don't know if you've ever gone to a stallion expo, but it's an awesome good time. A friend/trainer of mine takes her stallion and it always proves to be worth the money.

Horse expos, local tack stores, internet sites, smaller local magazines, (unless if you are doing AI then you could branch out further).
We set an amount of what our advertising will be for a year, cause it really can get very expensive quickly..

I advertised (and sold) my appy stud colt on appaloosa.com. It was $17.95 for a 90 day ( I think) ad with 3 pics.

We have local horse magazines here like the Northwest Horse Source check your local tack feed store for free publications you can usually advertise in them for less than the journals and they reach the non-computer population.
