AQHA question on getting registered

Help clear up a little discussion for me please. I say that to have a horse registered AQHA you have to have the sire and dam registered, or at least know who they are. My daughter believes that if she has her mare DNA tested and it shows QH that she can have her registered?? Just a small disagreement that now has me seriously wondering. Thanks for any info.

Both parents must be registerd with the AQHA for the offspring to be registered.

Yep, AQHA requires that both parents be registered.

You can get into some other associations, such as ABHA, PHBA, IBHA with only one parent registered...these are registering on color. Or, I believe there is a half QH Registy.

I tried to tell the kid, but you know how teens are. We have no info on the mare's parentage at all. The subject came up at innoculation time. As my vet was filling out the coggins on her he said QH, I said no - grade, and he looked at me like I was insane. So I explained that we had no papers on her, so he wrote grade-QH on the coggins. Thanks for the info, I figured that was the way it would be. I think my daughter is still angling to get her bred someday and wanted papers so she could find a nice stud.
