mixes

Hey guys, so I was thinking last night of all the "mixed" breeds that I could think of.

Like a morab is a morgan x arab
or Quarab is a QH x arab

and I just wanted to know the others, like I know appendix,anglo-arabian etc are ones but I can't think of the mixes.

All warmbloods started as mixes, the colder draft breeds crossed with hot Tb.
These are now breeds in their own right with very well defined registries (ie Hannovarian, Swiss WB, Trakhener etc)
Many WB are further crossed with straight TB, to further lighten them. If it meets the requirments of the breed registry they can be registered as well ie Canadian or American WB.

Moriesian = Morgan + Friesian
Quariesian = QH + Friesian
Azteca = QH (or Paint) + Andalusian
Welara = Welsh + Arab
National Show Horse = Saddlebred + Arab
Paintaloosa/Pintaloosa = Paint or Pinto + Appaloosa
Walkaloosa = TWH + Appaloosa
Araloosa = Arab + Appaloosa
Tennuvian = TWH + Peruvian Paso
Spanish Norman = Percheron + Andalusian

Those are just some off the top of my head... not sure if I have them all spelled correctly though

Not sure I could say that is technically correct (and you are correct, I am being nit picky here) The European warmblood breeds all started with native horses (before any of them were considered "breeds" closed registries and the like) ....whatever was local and was being used for farming, war, carriage and riding horses..and as better horses, mostly Arabians and latter TB's (which is what happened when Arabians were used to improve English native horses) are used to improve the native stock...then the registries were closed and they become a "breed"

So yes mixes..but very long time ago when the breeds involved were not breeds per say but "types".

...by the same token, Quarter horses, are to me, the ultimate American Warmblood

I always thought a nice cross would be a morgan and Appaloosa. Two of my favorites.

Call them a Moraloosa??

If you like the Zorse one, how about the Zedonk? Zebra + donkey
Oh, and of course, a mule = horse + donkey (which I'm sure everyone knows )

Appendix = QH + TB

A pintabian is not a Paint x Arabian, it is a horse that is over 99% arabian that is pinto (tobiano) coloured. A half paint half arab is just that, and can only be registered as a part bred arabian.

Paso Creole----peruvian paso x paso fino (unfortunately it's not recognized as a registerable breed YET)

Hey PasoLover,
Aren't there also other crosses accepted for a POA?
I was just recently at a horseshow, and there was the "cutest" little chestnut, that was the most beautifully built, looked total QH, but was actually POA. The guy who owned it told me, mother QH, father POA, and the registry gives them 2 years to spot out and then if they don't or it isn't enough, they can't show POA recognized shows. He was too cute, but could no longer show POA. And he came from a POA breeder. Just curious....? Thanks Redboy

It's abbreviated for P.ony O.f A.mericas.

But, if you were asking how to say POA out loud, I don't think there would be anyway of saying it just, P-O-A, with all the letters sounding like themselves.........I guess??? I don't really know.

What do you think Paso????
I just say the first 3 letters as they sound in the alphabet.
