Look What I Found!

And he is in my town!!!!

So my untrained eye immediately takes in the eye candy....but for those more experienced than me.....

Tell me what you think of him.......

Am I totally thrown by the color...or is there something else there?

http://www.jmkmalibuken.com/index.html

Here is his offspring....

http://www.jmkmalibuken.com/offspring.html

ETA: Here is his allbreed link...but I just saw that he has a lot of hypp positives in his lines.

Where did you find the Hypp status? I looked but could not find it on their site. I saw that his dam was positive.

Well that stinks.

I went to our saddle club show this past weekend...and our club president apparently conditioned this horse.

They said that there was someone that owned a real nice stud in the area that was positive...but they acted like it was no big deal. I assume this might be him.

Oh he is quite gorgeous, but it does say he is HYPP N/H. What a shame.

What is PBHA anyhow?

Is that like a big thing to be the PBHA World Champion?

Shame about the genetic problem.

Something about the horses that look like the Incredable Hulk- to me, looks very unnatural. Especially on a pudgy horse. He's a pretty color for sure.

Ok, I'm confused...
I know this has been brought up hundreds of times, but someone refresh me...

If he is N/H and she bred to her mare who is not a carrier wouldn't that make the foal N/N or does it still have a chance at n/h as well?

I wish to know as well.

Never mind Cascy.....here is the answer.

HYPP is inherited as a dominant trait, which means a heterozygous (N/H) stallion or mare bred to a normal (N/N) horse will result in approximately half of the offspring being affected and half being normal. The rare homozygote (H/H) usually is severely affected with the disease and will pass the gene to its offspring 100 percent of the time.

No.. only N/N and N/N will produce N/N..

An N/H bred to an N/N statistically has a 50 - 50 chance of an N/N foal and an N/H foal.. statistically - in reallity, he could sire N/N's all the time with her, or N/H's all the time with her..

However, even one N/H possibility to me, is too much..

An N/H horse may or may not be symptomatic - but the HYPP gene is dominent, not recessive - so the potential for an attack exists every day of that N/H horses life..

ETA: this slow motion movement on here means you already had the answer by the time I posted.. sorry..

There is a chance the baby will be positive. I'm not sure on the exact percent...I think it's 25%, but it might be 50%.

The dam obviously throws one negative, so the baby will be N/?..but since the stallion is a carrier of the disease he can pass it on, making the resulting foal N/N or N/H...

That probably was confusing...

I am not at all impressed with that stud. He looks like a roided out, bloated version of a horse. AND IMO he should not be breeding considering he's passing on a deadly disease.

If you want color, find a horse thats already here instead of breeding for one. Then you know exactly what you're getting! There are TONS of low priced nice colored horses everywhere! If you can afford to take on more horses, now is certainly the time because with market so depressed you can get a STEAL just about anywhere. When the market turns around (someday) you won't find the nice horses at these prices anymore.

Incidentally, I'm not a color guru but your mare is black and white right? I don't know what your chances are of getting that Pally color anyway? I think there is a color calculator around here somewhere?

No....not looking to breed right now...was just commenting on the fact that he lived near me...and wanted to know what other's thoughts were.

Should have clarified that...sorry.

IWBOAH....That bay you sent me was nice.

I would lean towards a using pedigree anyways with her since that is what her's is full of.

I would really like to find one with PR Man or Triple Chick in it...as I think they have greatly influenced hers.

That is what IWBOAH was talking to me about....she made a valid point but I will let her share if she chooses to.
