Local Article about Twins being born

This is a newspaper article in today's paper. I guess a breeder's mare gave birth to twins on July 25th.

I'm not sure that a mare will die after the 2nd push.

I know of a mare that had twins last year, she lived, but saldy one of the foals (the colt) died. She was a new mom.

I can't wait for the page to load...stupid dial up!

The news report page loads fast for me, but the lady's website[which you can copy and paste at the bottom of the news report] is soo slow - i guess its being viewed like crazy cause 1 of the twins are for sale but I think a viewer bought it[still on the website for sell], and the other twin is going to be the owners stud prospect...

Anyways, I'm happy they're both happy, healthy, and living!

Thanks for telling me that, I gave up.

I might try to pull it back up later.

Did it say if the foals had any health problems? I am curious to know....

Twins happen though Rare. Mine are 2 years old now and healthy and strong. Normal size from what I was expecting off the cross!! BUt I could never seperate them..They are attached at the hip and still have to always lay down together!! They are the best friends and can't seem to be away from each other!

The boy in my avitar was a twin. The poor mare went almost 12 months with them! Unfortunately, the filly didn't make it.. She was jet black.. How cute would that have been? A black and pali on a grey mare!

I guess horses are not like cows when they have twins as they are sterile

I have never even heard of a survival of the mare and twins. Rare, I guess...
Ditto to Vickie - were there health issues?

On my twins we had minor health issues the first 2 weeks and than no lasting problems! We indused my mare and were there for the foaling...Mare was alittle confused there were two of them (she had been a brood mare her whole life and always only had 1 in the past) They both had meconium SP? and were both treated with antibotics and then both got ulcers which were also treated. We did supplement the mares milk with land o lakes goat milk replacer and both were pretty fine once they learned to drink that along with mares milk.
We were very lucky to have a vet who gave them all the best of care. And went did all vital on babys 4 times a day. any odd or wierd behavior and the vet came right out. Mare was fine with no problems besides swollen legs which she had never had before with foaling...But she was as big as a house.
Day they were born

about a week old

My nieghbor had a huge halter mare (16.2 hh, 1400 lbs) bred to the sire of the mare in my avatar. She had healthy twin fillies. I wish I still had pics of them but don't know where they are

The foals were almost normal size, guess due to her size she didn't have any trouble. She had also been ultra-sounded and it didn't pick the second one up. It was a big surprise though!

Oh boy, I sure hope that the interviewer for the article didn't quite get that right . . . they make it sound like the woman didn't even know her horse was pregnant at all, and suddenly twins appear. Which means she'd have to be the world's most clueless breeder!!!

I'm guessing she probably didn't know for a while, but sure would hope she had a suspicion by the time the mare was bagging up!

Hi Treasure!
