Last Foal Watch for 2008-ITS A GIRL!!! *PICS*

My last foal watch for 2008. A maiden mare, her due date was 5/15. She is HUGE, has had a dropped looking belly for days now and her bag has been huge but with no milk in it! Her bag looks like she has a major testicle sack! It is like half a cantaloupe! Lastnight check, no milk, butt squishy, pawing a little and pacing, still ate her dinner well. Very windy though and she was probably not comfortable.

This morning, no milk still, very squishy butt, similar if not slightly more then the night before. No other changes. I did not feed breakfast due to the wind, it would have blown through her pen quicker then it would have hit the ground!

Tonight, MILK!!! She has lots of milk and it squeezes out easily! Still watery looking but white!!! Butt is extremely squishy and belly looks more dropped then night before. She ate dinner well I gave a doubled amount due to the mornings wind. it is not windy tonight, so far. Col, and calm night so far. Mare seems kinda agitated but calm and comfortable.

I will be up tonight watching the camera!

She foaled!!! A BIG red dun filly this morning! This baby is kinda a bittersweet foaling. She is the one and only foal out of my old stallion, and she is colored!

I am in the process of uploading pics to photobucket to post! They will be on here in a few mins!

WOW it hasn't been 10 mins since Iposted that I was getting pics up! I have dial up internet so uploading pics takes a while for me!

Yes, same mare. She is confused at the whole baby thing. She is appearing to be a good mama, she is letting her nurse, and she does let me handle her. 5 days ago I had her back adjusted and since then she has been lifting her feet and allowing me to touch her udder-finally! so I wasn't thinking she would kick at nursing at that point, but she does still have her problems with attitude.

They would pile on lead weights, whatever was needed to get up to the amount of weight the handicapper said they should carry. We're handicapped because otherwise the world could not keep up with us
