I love that site!!! it is one of the most informative sites I've found about HYPP.I direct people that want to breed to my stallion(he is HYPP N/N) to the site. He is Impressive bred and they want more info on it!

HYPP

WOW! I just studied the website, I have a NN mare and stallion, and i catch a lot of #### because they are Impressive bred. I love them both and try to justify my lack of worry as they are both tested negative. I am going to include this website in my sales literature for my colts.

HYPP

Very informative website. Just curious as to where she gets the info..do owners send it to her or does she compile it from stud ads, etc.?
I just found out that one of the studs I was going to breed my mare to is N/H. While I ended up not breeding her to him for other reasons, I'm still on the fence about the whole issue. I still have alot to learn about it, I guess.

OK, please bear with me if this is a dumb question... I knew of the HYPP problem but foolisly thought that's a QH/Impressive problem and as I'm buying (have bought now) an App gelding, no worries. Well now that I've educated myself a bit more and have read with increasing dismay posters here describing the modern day App as a "QH w/spots", do I have anything to worry about with Teddy? His papers list only sire/dam, grand sire/grand dam. I can get a copy of his pedigree going back 5 generations from the ApHC for $15, is that something I need to do or am I concerned for nothing?

Taisjia, his name is Maids Dream Dancer, the names on his papers are as follows: Sire: - Hez Maid To Glo
Grand Sire - Maid's Dream
Grand Dam - Mysterees Glitter

Dam: - Annie Chocolatesundy
Grand Sire - Super Bo Dude
Grand Dam - Co-High

That's how it's listed on his papers, I think the dam side might be QH? No clue really. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I personally just call AQHA to find out a horses HYPP status. If the horse has been tested, they will let you know what the results were. They are always happy to do so. I don't imagine getting the information from them would ever be a problem just due to the fact that they are trying to eliminate the disease from the population. Best way to do that is to provide information to people buying / breeding.

They will release the results only if they are on the papers.
At this point the results do not have to be included.
So some folks do not forward in the results.

I have an n/h gelding and have made minor changes to his diet. He gets pickling salt (no additives) versus iodized which is potassium iodide. He gets hay and pasture when available, gets 4lb. Senior's with a few oats.(low potassium) No mineral lick. He is not confined to a stall but allowed to free range.

Good for you. I have an Impressive mare whose sire was tested HYPP n/n. She is the best horse I have ever owned. Impressive horses are not bad, people just need to take steps to breed away from positive horses. It won't happen over nght, but we do need to work on it for our horses and fellow horsepeople.

The website on HYPP is merely a list, so is lacking in HYPP information. There is no information regarding feeding, general care, emergency care, etc. Anyone considering breeding should request a look-see at the registration paper as HYPP will be listed, if applicable.

That information can be gathered through a web search and on the AQHA website.

I think Tmom posted the link for just the names.
