How is the expectant momma this morning? I am keeping my fingers crossed that she foals soon and it is a healthy baby and that mom and foal are fine.

Palpating is not as accurate as one may think.
I had Bonnie palpated as well as Poco and Vet said Poco bred, Bonnie, not bred, but she foaled.

Only way to know, and its not a sure thing, is a sonagram.

IMO, I would wait her out as long as she is not in distressed and foal still moving.

Not knowing her foaling history and running with a stallion can be any time.

If you had taken her off fescue months ago, I really doubt she has toxicity.

My girls was on it in Arkansas, and taken off a few months prior and foaled just fine.

Not knowing is a killer in the waiting game and you will pull your hair out and bite your fingers off. Forget the nails.

Hang in there, you are doing great and when this is all over, take a stiff drink and breath.

I will toast to a healthy safe delivery.

Still no baby.

Now on tube number... *counts on fingers* ...five.

Think I could register it as "Tumani Toobsa Dom"?

The 4 am check found her down, and breathing hard. So much pressure from within, that it had the entire vaginal/rectal area swollen and protruding. So much so that it looked like something was trying to come out... enough that I put a lubed/gloved hand in to make sure the baby wasn't being held up in there. No baby in the canal. Mare stood up and shook off. I walked the dry lot after, and there were no other signs of labor, no large wet patches, no soft BMs, no excessive BMs...

5 am check, again, down and breathing really hard, with occasional small grunts. Again, so much pressure from within had the vaginal area really swollen. She laid for a while longer, but then stood when I offered some hay.

She's since inhaled her morning grain, and has played with all of her hay, picking through it for the 'good' stuff, then reluctantly eating the stemmier pieces.

She finished her grain tonight with usual gusto. Picking through the hay now.

Looser stools, but no "cow pies". I'm attributing it to "richer hay" for 2 feedings. We had a small change in hay last night and this morning while I borrowed a bale of 1st cutting alfalfa, until we couild go get another load of her orchard mix today.

A baby tonight would be nice, (while Hubby is off to help) but I'm not holding my breath.

does sound like she's getting closer.

Not sure if it makes you feel better or not, but neither of my mares have gone off of feed before foaling. In fact one time Lucy ate half her grain, fell over, spit colt out, got up, finished grain.

How old is the mare? I have heard (maybe it's a wive's tale?) that the older the mare, the later they go. The last foal we had, we had bred so knew the exact date of pregnancy and had a mid march due date....she foaled almost 3 wks late on april 18.
I didn't know fescue could lenghten the gestation, I know there are other troubles, but I didn't know that was one of them.

Good luck- hope it all goes well!

Most of ours don't go off their feed either.. piggies that they are..

She may be pushing that foal into position.. like Braxton Hicks in people.. hopefully soon, though, so you can get some sleep..

Still no baby.

The milk bag has lost all hardness, and is back to a little over 1/2 full. I know I've seen one side leaking, but I can only guess that both are leaking now... She's definitely still on Dom, so no reason for less milk.

And no, it's not the usual "morning full, evening shrunk" syndrome. She had been full and hard 24/7 for weeks, both am and pm checks. Now she's softer in the morning and evening than she had been.

pH tests still read 6.6 (got a better and more detailed one).
Hardness test is still between 250 and 1000.

After a "divine" brain storming phone call earlier, we shrunk her dry lot in half, so I won't need to go hunting. The most I'll need to do is open the front door and peek, instead of walk around the house... Hopefully, this might make her less worried about what I'm doing.

This morning, she was gargantuanly wide again, as opposed to the "doesn't even look pregnant anymore" that she appeared last week. This afternoon, she was narrow and low again by feeding, so perhaps someone wasn't sitting right and she shifted it around?

So many fears about worst cases, and so many plans for each of them running through my brain... it's amazing I can remember my name right now.

Hi
My friend had her mare palpated at the end of January as it was an unexpected pregnancy and the breeding date was unknown and the vet said that she had two weeks left. The mare foaled on April 9th nearly six weeks after the vet predicted.
Good luck for an easy foaling and soon.

Hang in there! If it makes you feel better last year we had an oops baby caused by an 8 month old colt out with 8 mares and only my 2 year old got preg. Vet palpated and ultrasounded and was still 2 MONTHS off. Not late though, early and the baby was no premie he was huge.
I've had mares not get huge bags and some not bag up much at all until after foaling. The good thing is you do have milk.
Maybe the fireworks tonight will set in in motion.
