I am a fan of judge alex, so normally i would say "yeah go on the show, it will be fun" but what I'm thinking is this...television is all about sensationalism and I'm sure they have people who go all over the country and pour over court cases to find unusual and interesting ones. Nobody would watch the shows if they were the same old boring cases every day.
My take on this is that they see a case like this and think "oh great horses spreading stds this will be great ratings!" I can just hear those cheezy announcers that introduce the cases now.." up next the case of the stud thats spreading stds" or something sleezy. the only thing important to those tv guys is ratings and in my opinion they would make light on this unfortunate incident every way they could and try to turn it into some big joke.

update judge finally made decision

hey everybody,
know its been awhile, but we finally got a decision back from the judge today. it only took her 6 months to figure it out. we did get back the stud fees for both horses court costs and some vet fees. basically the judge said that yes the horses while in her care became infected but we were unable to provide enough evidence (basically because we couldnt get our vet there) that it was indeed ehv3. so but at least we finally can close this as long as the lady doesnt appeal and get our money and move on.

Glad that you were able to at least recoup some of your loss.
Hopefully she pays up, and you can move on.

would be nice but i bet she will appeal. she has 14 days so we will see. good news is both mares have since to have another outbreak, but i was pregnant all summer so there wasnt much stress on them.

OMG- what a story!! glad you came out on top. There should have been something in there saying the stud had to be gelded...any idea what happened to him?

When the blood samples were sent to that lab, you said they did it twice- is there a way to get paperwork showing them positive for ehv3? that is, if you can't get the vet to testify should she appeal the case.

WOW!!!! just catching all of this!! and i read your original post, any one who has a breeding stallion should have yearly checks prior to breeding season weather you breed or not, just for his health. that women was definitly at fault and i am glad the judgement came through for you, she was neglegent in his care, in 17 years of breeding i have never has an std on my stallion and he has never given one, and i didnt go to a vet school either. if she gives you any trouble contact breeding facilities in diffrent states and see what their stallion care is...bet they keep up on it.
