What do you do with your manure??

What a question huh?? Anyway, I have 5 horses on my property and we are debating how to handle the mounting manure pile. We are trying to figure out if we should make a compost pile, get a manure speader or haul it away somewhere. So how do you'll manage your manure??

We use a small manure spreader that we pull with the riding mower. We have 8 horses and only five acres. It has been a good investment. I still keep a small compost pile for garden use but I highly reccommend a spreader.

We have a compost pille but most of ours goes to local farmers who use it in their fields. We just give it to them and they come haul it away.

My BO spreads some on his garden, I bring home some for my garden, and the rest he spreads. I have some great tomatoes this year!

I spend a bloody fortune each week to have our waste management people pick up our trash bin filled with manure.

I compost it and then 2 times a year spring and again in the fall put a sign up next to the mail box free compost you haul and it gose quite quickly. This year I also put it up on Creagslist too.

Have not yet in 9 years living here had a problem getting rid of it.

Spread it on the hay fields and it makes the hay grow better. Nieghbor also takes some for his garden.

I have been trying to give mine away but so far no takers. For now the pile just grows.

We spread ours on the land when the crops are not in.
If the weather or crops prevent us from spreading, I stock pile it in a big pile in an area just for manure - it composts for the most part and then when crops come out we spread it.

Our older neighbor down the road begged us for our Manure! LOL We said no begging required, have all you want! We take it to him by the truck load and he has a huge garden he uses it in. In return we get fresh veggies and farm fresh eggs. I think that is the perfect deal I also bake him cookies, pies and brownies because he is on his own and he always gives us an abdundance of veggies!

Because I live in a very suburban area, I have an Edco bin that gets dumped once a week for $80 a month. It is actually really easy...we built a ramp to get the wheelbarrows up, dump, close lid, it gets emptied...

and it also keeps the flys down!

Spreader, it keeps the flies down. When we piled it up the moist pile of manure was just a breeding ground for flies.
