Got there at 1:30, as planned.
Helped Sara (full-timer) unload a pickup of hay into an empty stall.
Helped other intern girl shovel the old hay into a wheelbarrow and haul it out to the compost-y thing.
Got told to wait around for 30 minutes by Tim the manager.
Tim let us catch & halter his "halter-broke-but-not-catch-broke" colt.
20 minutes later, colt is caught (he was in a foaling stall and neither the other intern nor I have ever had to 'catch" one before).
Other girl can't get him to walk although she is the only one of us who can catch him. She handed me the leadrope and he walked along just fine. I was happy.
We walked the colt up and down the barn aisle (he's housed in a foaling stall). He didn't like two people messing with him at once but we did brush him fairly well. Except his butt. Apparently he's butt shy.
Next task: catch and halter two older colts who're going to a sale.
First up is a gray colt that never faces up. Ever. Tim the barn manager caught him for just a second but the horse jerked or something (so fast I kinda missed it) and hurt Tim's wrist/arm. Tim got mad and let us do the next one.
This one's a red dun with an adorable face called "Muskrat". But Muskrat liked one wall and would only face that way, or just run around you in a circle until he could get back to his favorite wall. (The grey colt was housed on the other side of said wall). We never got him caught and neither did Tim.
So after that little 'unable to catch anything' lesson Tim called it a day and sent us home. Next time I go (Friday) I will be sure and take pictures. Still - lots of fun!!!
