Tell me about where you live, I'm thinking of moving.

I am ready for a change and want to move. I am tired of the snow and cold. I live in British Columbia, Canada and want to move somewhere warm. Please tell me where you live and what the weather is like year round. And anything else that would make someone want to move there.

I am from Massachusetts and yesterday it was 63 degrees out. Is that warm enough for January?? I think we broke a record temp yesterday though, lately very weird weather. My Iris's are up 3 inches already and my roses are getting buds. Highly unusual for Massachusetts. Property is highly priced and farms are being sold out everyday to construction companies that put up giant, ritzy houses where our trails use to be. You can move here if you like, and if you are in a neighboring town, I will come over to pet your mini's and your Chestnut Arabian. Wouldn't that be fun??

Arkansas here. Very hot in summer and we have cold snaps in winter. Not much snow, sometimes ice. Today I was running around in a t-shirt comfortably.

Theres lots of beaches an lakes to go swimmimg in.If you like swimming.
An theres so many sites to see,it would take a few years to see them all.
Theres big cities,an theres small ones,an theres the country,an theres the woods.
Plenty of oranges, pecans, tangerines, coconuts, that you can pick
Plenty of space to go boating or sailing.
Plenty of land still for sale.
Everything you could want, but snow. If this helps.

I live in Texas. It's blazing hot. Yesterday the high was 76 I believe... We don't have that thing that other places have...whatiscall it? Winter? It's called something like that. Ya, we don't got it. But some of the property is relatively cheap. But you can't do anything in the summer till after 7 o clock or you might have a heatstroke and die. or melt. There are some state parks you can ride around in as an upside.

Well, I am in SW Missouri. You get a taste of almost every kind of weather here, in almost any given month.

We typically have one big cold snap in December/January (0 degrees F or lower) and one or two big snow/ice storms. Everyone runs around like chickens with their heads cut off during that time. After that, the highs hover in the upper 40s to upper 50s and we typically get precipitation in the form of cold drizzle until about March.

Trees and other plants start to come back to life in March and the temps do a roller coaster from the 40s to the lower 70s. Our severe weather (tornado) season starts at about that time too. Historically, there is often one big wet snow in March, too.

By April, things are blooming and the temps are in the 60s/70s, but the Gulf humidity hasn't settled in (although you might get a taste!) It's very pretty with all the redbuds and other blooming trees. Thunderstorms and showers continue.

In May, the humidity starts to settle in at the end of the month and it's also our rockiest time for severe weather. However, it's a very pretty time since EVERYTHING is blooming and it's very green. Temps start in the 60s/70s and we usually see at least one day of 90 degree weather before the end of the month.

June-September gets HOT & HUMID. If you're tired of cold now, you'll be wishing for it by Labor Day! The highs are easily in the upper 80s and on most days, the heat index is pretty high. We usually have a week or two of triple digit heat with lots of sunshine throughout the summer.

In late Sept. into October, the weather transitions again, and if we've had a decent amount of rain, you're treated to a very beautiful display of fall colors. The highs taper off fairly quickly into the 60s or below and the humidity disappears. It's "sweater weather."

Things continue to cool off until around Thanksgiving or so, when the temps take a big plunge into winter.

But, the thing about Missouri weather is that things change very quickly and very dramatically! We had thundersnow back at the end of November and a tornado wiped out a nearby lake area in March. You're never bored with MO weather!

Missouri has lots to do if you're an outdoorsy person. SW MO in particular has lots of lakes and Branson is nearby. The MO Fox Trotter Registry is located in Ava, MO and it's overall a very horsey state with most breeds being represented. The cost of living is comparatively low, too and you get to enjoy good ol' Midwestern Hospitality!

Missouri has 2 of the US's major metropolitan areas located (barely) in its borders with Kansas City on the western side and St. Louis on the east. Springfield is the biggest city in SW MO.

Anyway, there's my input on MO -- I'm a lifelong resident and have no plans to move anytime soon.

Good luck!

Kansas is the place to go, the springs and autumns are gorgeous, they are full of those perfect 68 degree, light breeze days. Summer can be pretty hot, but just get some shade trees and it will be good. Winters seem to be getting warmer and warmer, we have whole weeks of 60 degrees during the winter sometimes. I might be exaggerating a bit, but not much. Oh, and you'd still get to see snow occasionally too.

Born and raised in Michigan. We have a true four seasons here. Snowy, cold winters, beautiful spring and fall, summers can be hot but not too bad, humid for about two weeks give or take. Plenty of lakes, rivers and streams and you're never too far from one of the great lakes. Land prices vary depending on where you settle. I love it here most of the time but when winter comes calling I wish I lived somewhere else. Being from British Columbia though our winter probably wouldn't seem too bad by comparison.

There is a great book you could get called "Places Rated Almanac". It rates US cities based on things like climate, arts and entertainment, job outlooks, crime, housing costs etc..... You could probably get in at the library if you don't want to invest in buying one.

The last time I used it was several years ago, but be sure to get the most recent publication since the cities ratings change every year.

Good luck and let us know where you end up!

Move to Ontario! In the summer it's blazing hot (as in 40C without the humidex, which makes it about 45C). Then the winters are really nice (not that cold) with lots of snow. The Springs and Falls are really warm (20-25C) with beautiful colors in the fall!!

I am thinking south. Not east. No offense to anyone back east. Or maybe even southeast, or southwest. Just somewhere warmer than here with less snow. I thought I was getting used to it but, I was wrong. And thanks for the info on the book, carlagsd. I think I will go to the library tomorrow.
My kids have all moved up to Ft St JOHN and are trying to talk me in to going north. I am kind of thinking Northern AZ or TX, but maybe thats to hot? Anyone?

Well now - I do believe Texas is pretty close to heaven on earth. I read what Nynx wrote and while I can't argue the point, it focuses on our hot summers without telling about the beauty of our great state. No question - Texas is horse country! And it has the most varied and beautiful terrain - desolate West Texas has its own kind of wild beauty where one can see for miles and miles. East Texas is full of pine tree forests. We have mountains at Fort Davis and beautiful lakes. And everything in between. Yes, it can get pretty warm in the summer but that is what siestas are for...and since we get plenty of daylight in the summer it is only during the hottest of summer that you don't do much. But the winter - ahhhh, you could have gone riding today and enjoyed brisk 70 degree weather. Texas is incredibly varied and lots of land to please the eye...Don't discount Texas - folks are friendly and there are lots of opportunities for horse activities just about wherever you go.

I live in Northern California, on the beautiful Northern California Coast.

this place is here:
http://www.horse-vacation.com/

www.fortbragg.com

and if you like good beer, we've got a great brewery here.

http://www.northcoastbrewing.com/

The weather here is awesome, with summers that start around april or may that last well into september and even october. And the summers are mild, almost never above 80-85, and the winters are mild too, with only one or two nights below freezing. It's expensive to live here, I won't lie, but to me it is worth it. Cranky old man was born and raised here, and Avery (my son) was born here too. It's home.

Snickers my girlfriend just flew to Fl for a week (horse shopping) and asked if I wanted to go. I told her she wouldn't see me again until May if I went south now. I had to pass. Is there any gators where you are?
Miss leanne, I grew up in Southern Ca and my husband grew up in Yreka, Ca. How we ended up here is anyones guess. But we met up here in Canada and here is where we are for now.
I would love to see the video Bonanza! I will pm you.
I thought of going to Alberta, we have several people there that would love the property we have here. And would buy this place in a heart beat.
But Alberta is way to cold in the winter for me. But I have lots of friends there so thats a plus.
Nynx Im thinking I like the sound of TX. Warm and Hot. How do the horses do in the heat there? Well you guys are giving me lots to think about. Thank you.

Tennessee - excellent weather most of the time - lots of green, lots of rain, and humidity in the summer - but generally very mild winters. There is a hous with 60 acres for sale across from us - barn, pond, dog kennels, etc... Asking price is $485, 000.... Plus you would have great neighbors like us!
