pelleted shavings
I have heard so much rave about the pelleted shavings. I have tried several times to use them and they seem to be extremely dusty. My horses are covered in a thick film of dust and their water buckets get so nasty with the dust that I have to empty them and refill them twice a day. AM I DOING SOMETHING WRONG? I wet them down and fluff them until they expand. I have tried to leave some solid pieces but the horses eat them

We love them but you have to wet them until the feel damp to the touch to get rid of the dust. It is disturbing and it takes a lot of water to get them right. You want to wet them until there is no pellet left. Good Luck!

My riding instructor tried them with the same result - too much dust, even after she wetted them down.
For about the same cost per bag, or sometimes less than the Woodypet product, you could try Nafcore Horse Bedding. Here is thier Website http://www.greenenaturalfibers.com/bedding.asp Its a warm, soft bedding that doesn't stick in manes and tails, absorbs and neutralizes urine, and feels like you have bedded your horse on packing peanuts! Best of all, it is practically free of dust, and has no sharp splinters.

Yup, wet em down and they work like a champ. If you want to keep your horse from eating them, just add a little pine-sol to the water you use to dampen the pellets. It smells good and the horses will NOT eat them.

I love the woody pet pellets! There are other brands I don't think work as well, they don't break down. I never wet the pellets down. they expand and absorb the urine all on there own. I use them with shavings as well in the winter. I have never had a problem with dust.
