New Barn and Boarding- Very Happy So Far!

I have been up to the barn numerous times since I moved Jimmy on Saturday. And I am very, very pleased so far.

The barn is not as nice, and they don't currently have an indoor. But what they do have is the utmost in respect for horses and their needs - which is far more important to me. All of their horses and the boarder's horses are in great shape, and they have a lot of retired thoroughbreds that are hard keepers like Jim- and the owner said they specialize in putting weight on these types of horses.

Jimmy was out in a muddy, muddy small paddock before. His lower legs were always caked in mud, and I was always hosing and bathing and brushing this stuff off. He developed some "scratches" and I was doing my best to control it with medicated shampoo and blue kote. Thankfully the new barn does not have these mud issues AT ALL- but I noticed yesterday that they had been bathing and medicating his legs every day, without even being asked to do so- this after I had simply mentioned it in passing.

He has been turned out with about 20 geldings, all of whom seem to get along pretty well. Only one or two scratches or bumps to contend with, which is a good sign.

The pastures are HUGE, though. And I'm not used to going out into a sea of 20 horses to get mine! Talk about a little disconcerting! But aside from a slightly frightening mini-squabble getting him out the gate, all of the horses save one extremely large gelding just minded their own business. I informed the owner about this particular gelding who was a bit aggressive with Jim while I was getting him out, and she immediately told me that if the problem occurred again she would separate this horse from the rest and put him in with another group so that Jim or I would not get hurt.

Jimmy seems relaxed and content. He is voraciously eating, and getting all of his food which was a problem at his old barn. And the barn owners are so very nice- so far I am as happy as a clam, and I think that Jim is, too!

Wow! Sounds like you found a great place -- for you and your guy! I hope they stay attentive to your guy's needs.

Now, if only all boarding stables could be this nice....

Sounds like a great place. Even to go as far as washing up his legs for you when you didnt even ask them to is awsome.

That's something you should never have to worry about.

Sounds like you found a great place!
