Ceiling Fans

Dumb question. . . ."upkeep" related, although not necessarily "farm" upkeep.

Do any of you out there know if you're supposed to do something to maintain a ceiling fan, such as give it a shot of oil from time to time? I've lived here 7 years and have never done anything at all. I often turn them on in the spring and don't turn them off until fall. I'm concerned that I should be doing something that I'm not. But I haven't got any user manuals or anything.

Don't really know. Mine are as old as the house - 15 years, and have never had any maintenance at all. I suppose there is a way to oil them if they need it, but mine don't make any noise or have any problems, so I haven't done anything...

My parents have been in their house since 1979 and haven't done a thing with their ceiling fans until last winter when they got tired of the ugly thing and replaced it with a pretty one.

I now have the ugly thing in my house and it runs continuously.

I would recommend though that either you don't ever shut it off before company is due to come over because you will have dust bunnies all over the place!

Nah, leave it alone. My parents have had a ceiling fan that has never been turned off in the last 24 years...it's still going strong. They just reverse it in the fall and then again in the spring.
