My Barn Gets a Roof! (pictures) 01/03/06

As some of you may know, I am in the proccess of building a modest stable in my backyard. Well, over the New Year's weekend, I finally got to start putting the plywood up for the roof!

the first picture was taken fairly early, only a few panels are up, and thier not actually screwed on completely.

The next four were taken yesterday morning....I really wanted to get all the roof up, but Dad broke the circular saw and then it rained

As you can see, alot of my building materials are used signs....I work for a sign company! It's hard to pass up free lumber. Not to mention, I am saving alot of trees by recycleing those old signs

Congrats!!! That is quite an undertaking, I am always amazed that people can actually "Build" stuff. I am horrible at anything construction related. Hubby laughs at me if I try to drive a nail, just can't get the hang of it.

Mr. T,

That is so great! It's coming right along. There's nothing wrong with recycled materials. When we build our barn, hopefully this spring, it will be constructed of almost all recycled materials. It probably won't be pretty, but nothing a little paint can't help!

Thanks for the update.

What fun building a barn is. Congratulations for all your creativness. Looks great. For my Christmas present my husband has promised to FINISH the stalls on the section of the barn we started renovation on 3 years ago. The barn was one room with a one stall area on the side of this barn. This barn is around 130 years old. We were told by unknowers that due to its looks we should tear it down. After checking it over we saw that the rafters were in great shape = this is history with my great aunt and uncle for 50 years of this barns life. We decided to proceed and renovate by replacing the wall boards and flooring, increase the size by a few feet for extra storage, increased the original one stall area and added a hay room. We used rejected rough cut lumber from the lumber yard that we got for mostly free. We extended the storage area which is now area for 3 stalls and this is what has to be boxed in. Gotta fix fence this weekend to move horses off muck to another pasture. Always something we are doing for these beautiful animals, uh??

Lookin' good Mr. T!!! Isn't it just a blast when you're trying to build a barn and it just rains and rains?! .. my barn is surrounded by a swamp right now! Recycling is a life saver too! We're using recylced tin for our barn.. it came from a barn that was taken down a little ways down my road. If we would have had to buy all the tin we're using, from a regular supplier, it would have cost an arm and a leg! Anywho, it's looking great! Can't wait to see it finished!

Actually, its big enough that if I wanted to, I could stuff 5 or 6 horses in it when its done...but I would have to store the hay and tack somewhere else. The opereative word would be stuff, though, since two or three of them would have to be in divisions of the aisle.
