Bruton trailers vs Ponderosa Trailers

Okay, I have a question about horse trailers, we are in the process of buying us a new one.

We have found a 1998 3 horse slant Bruton X-treme with a dressing room in front, rear tack room, drop down windows in front and behind, and under storage that is really clean and nice shape. They are asking $8,000.00

The other trailer is 2005 ponderosa 3 horse slant with front dressing room and rear tack room but it only has the drop down windows on front and open on back. It is brand new and priced at $6,550.00.

Which one would be a nicer and better trailer in the long run. The money is not an issue in this case. We just want to get the better trailer that is going to last longer and be more dependable with care! my husband likes the bruton b/c he has had them before and he knows they are a good trailer but he doesn't really now much about the ponersoa as for if they are as good as the Brutons.

Thanks

I'm not an expert on horse trailers by any means but I wanted to pass this tidbit along. I subscribe to EQUUS magazine and there was an article once about a horse untied itself and jumped out the back of a trailer with a half-door. The owner was amazed that the horse fit out the opening.

I'm not sure that's what you mean by open back, but after reading that article, I will never ever buy a trailer that does not have a fully enclosed back. Windows are okay, of course, but no half doors for me!

Well, here I am with a comment but not directly related to your question because I don't know BUT I was driving beside an empty aluminum horse trailer and it was bouncing around all over the place and LOUD. It started me to thinking about the weight of a trailer and its stability. It was one of those stock trailers that could fit up to 6 steers or horses in it, two compartments. And I'm thinking that those 6 horses would weigh more than the trailer empty. That can't be good. Because the horses could move enough to destabilize the trailer. No thanks. So I wonder about the weight difference of the two trailers and how that compares.

My husband is a welder and we were looking at those fancy-schamncy ones with the living quarters in them and the welds were not very nice in the horse part. They had sharp corners. I'd look for that.

Gerald says that the slants are easier to get horses in and out safely for the person, who isn't stuck in there with a horse. That's a good feature too.

Just my two cents.

We currently use my parents stock trailer it is a ponderosa, and we really like it it is probally 8-10 years old and still in great shape! I dunno if that helps any but I thought I would mention it anyway. We have hauled all different types of horses in it, from drafts to weanlings and it has always handled really well.
