Dirt Dobber Invasion!

Does anyone else have trouble with dirt dobbers? They are taking over our barn. We knock them down as soon as we seen a nest but they contiue to invade!

Are those the bugs that make the dirt tubes on the stalls and on the walls?

Yah, they tick me off! I am getting tired of knocking them down. They scare me too. Once night I heard a buzzing and coulding figure out where it was coming from until I saw the tubes. They are like alien pod people! AAAH!

Y'know... I haven't really noticed them too much around here. They usually nest inside my parent's garage door, and they are all around their garage. It's funny, inside the metal door, a bunch of them all buzzing sounds like a crowded restaurant full of people talking...

I typically don't notice them too much, until Christmas, and we get our decorations out of the barn, and there is a stoopid dirt tube on my favorite ornament!!!

They build their nest, dirt tubes, and stuff them with SPIDERS! The larva feed on the spiders! I think one reason we are being overrun with them is the construction that has exposed alot of dirt and clay. Which they use for their nests.

They look like a wasp. But they don't sting! Just a bother and a mess. Nothing to be afraid of.

Yes, have them in my barn too! We always called them mudd dobbers and they are very annoying. Knock the tubes down on a daily basis.

I think I'm having a vision of what they might look like . Hm...they "grow" on the walls? And they're made of something that looks like clay and grows in cluster? I don't think I have ever seen the actual bug before. I actually don't think I ever really knew what the tunnels were. Am I right? Hm...where were they...??

Are they dirt dobbers or are they dirt daubers? The reason I ask is because I'm going to have to try to look them up; I've never seen one but they sound interesting.

Soo thats what those are. There was one on the barn wall the other day. I sprayed wasp spray up the tube then waited a couple mintues and knocked it off with a shovel. I though it was weird. Ok glad to know Im not the only one with those things. Dirt Dobbers!!!

I have never seen it written down so don't really know the correct name or spelling. I will try to take a picture of the nests and insects when I get a chance.

I have seen them before but didn't have a pic of my own, so I did a search for "mud dobbers" and got a pic for those of you who haven't seen or heard of them...

That is what the nests look like.

They do make a strange buzzing sound when they are creating their nest or stuffing it with spiders!

Cool! Thanks for posting the picture.

Maybe tobianoveropaint would like some mud dobbers at her place - they must cut down on the spider population! :spiderman:
