Dumb Question?

I was wondering what you all would use to get the manure stains off of the wood in the stalls.

My walls are not painted, I tried spraying bleach and scrubing, but just too much work, and it dont all come off.

I just hate looking at poop stains running down the walls.

Any ideas????

When we rented a trailer (before we bought our stock trailer) it had plywood walls and when we returned it we power sprayed the walls with a high pressure sprayer and we got 95% of the stains off the walls. Do you have access to a portable high pressure sprayer?

poop

I would spray the walls with a bleach solution first n then you the power washer to get the stains that way you are not only getting rid of your stains but you are also disinfectiong your barn.

and if you use the bleach, power washing will help clear the bleach smell...

Be carefull with the spray nozzle. If you get to close with a sharp stream it will cut into the wood and you will have fresh wood marks.. Use a broader spray...and you should be ok....I learned the hard way doing my stock trailer the floors were painted over the wood and I took the paint off the wood....

I have the inside of my barn stained with used motor oil, I know sounds crazy but it is on there for 14 years, and every year I just spray wash and all the stains come right off.

Good idea..The oil protects the wood and some what preserves it too. Shame you can't get creasote anymore that was the best thing for treating wood...I use used motor oil on my spreader chains and the floor wood on it. The old timers used it for everything....

I didn't want that to happen in our new barn so we sprayed on four coats of polyurethane and everything washes off easily although I did learn the hard way that you shouldn't park your car in front of the barn doors while you're spraying polyurethane.

we painted the inside of our barn with White barn paint and it washes nicely. at least 2 or 3 times a year I spray everything with bleach before I wash it.

You can spray on the motor oil with a paint sprayer, but for fence or anything on the small side I used a rag, sponge, and wore kitchen dishwashing gloves.

Wow I never even thought of used motor oil...will have to look into it when the time comes. Legal issues aside is it actually safe to use with horses?

When the biting flies have been particularly bad I've sprayed used motor oil on my horses legs. With a sprayer and by standing back somewhat, the oil sits on top of the coat and not the skin. Baby shampoo will remove it.

I know I've used it,(used) and new motor oil on hooves for hoof dressing, but did not know about for stalls/painting legs, very good info. , BUT what kind of sprayer do you use that can handle oil like that without getting clogged all up and/or not spraying?
